Students from the state-acknowledged Special Academy for Restorers from Munich and from the Higher Special School for Restoration in Brünn/Czech Republic will jointly carry out restoration work and while doing so will enjoy an intensive exchange of ideas and social contact within the framework of the proposed project entitled “Intellectual Cooperation in a Joint Cultural Asset – Professional Exchange of Wood Restoration Ideas between Students from the Czech Republic and Germany”. This exchange will help students enhance their CVs due to their improved language skills and thanks to having established contacts with other colleagues from a neighbouring country. They will have a more natural view and understanding of other countries and cultures. The project is designed to take two years and will consist of two different phases. First of all, students from Munich will participate in a two-week regular theoretical and practical training at the Higher Special School in Brünn. They will get to know the training contents of the Czech school. This will be followed by another phase, during which various workshops will cover conservation and restoration works of the sacristy of the Jesuit Church Mariä Himmelfahrt in Brünn that German and Czech students will carry out together, supervised by German and Czech teachers. The aim of these workshops will be to exchange expert knowledge, improve their English project language skills and students will discover new cultural approaches and thinking methods. Two students will be assigned from Munich to take part in a two-week mobility phase for training purposes. In the beginning, the project will start with 23 students from the second and third study year taking part in the four workshops scheduled, and then 14 students from the second study year will take part in the three workshops following afterwards. Each workshop will be supervised locally by 6 German trainers sent to the Czech Republic and by 8 local Czech teachers. Ten Czech students will take part in each of the workshops. All students are trainees from the institutes in Munich and Brünn and they will already bring along special background knowledge gained from their wood technology training completed before. The contents of the workshop are available as concepts already. Participants will be supervised and assessed by the teachers in the fields of design and working methods and during all process steps. A comprehensive PR campaign will be used to inform the experts and non-experts by using tours, social media, television, radio, trade journals and conferences. The Memorandum of Understanding forms the framework for the cooperation and is based on ECVET elements. A learning agreement between the learner, the sending and the receiving institution is signed and is also based on ECVET elements. Final dialogues and presentations will be scheduled in order to verify, whether the procedure has been conducted successfully and whether the envisaged goals have been reached. The long-term benefit of this project lies in the cross-border collaboration. This foreign experience will help students enrich their ways of thinking and working methods and will increase their acceptance of other cultures. Moreover, having improved their language skills and having established valuable contacts with other European colleagues, students will enjoy better job opportunities on the labour market.
