The Youth Exchange "Intercultural Meeting on the Ysselmeer" of the German Caritas in the Diocese of Osnabrück and the Dutch Tactus in Deventer who both work in the field of drug addictions is based on an EUREGIO project which enhanced self control and self help mechanisms of drug addicts. Drug abuse is a serious problem in the German-Dutch border area. Especially the liberal handling of starter drugs like cannabis and alcohol with its European dimensions will be discussed by the youngsters within the Meeting who all faced their personal drug experiences and seek for self help and a way out of their addictions. Together the two groups of eight youngsters each will face new experiences on their seven day trip on the Ysselmeer without the use of drugs but with finding new European friendships and self confidence after a life of drugs and often unemployment and exclusion. A healthy life and a further abstinence will be trained on this trip. A new openess towards European neighbours will enable each participant to be more open to himself and others to give help for self-help.
