20 staff members from Introduktionsprogrammen in Borlänge, a high school for students who have not managed to get all the grades necessary during secondary education to move on to high school studies, have taken part in job-shadowing in Finland and Denmark. There have been 2 main focuses for the project; a) developing better teaching methods to enable better integration of SLL into studies given in Swedish. (Finland) b) developing a trainee-program for students who have a long history of failing in school and who do not have the grades to move on to vocational training in high school but still want to learn a skill. (Denmark) The staff have travelled in groups to the recieving organisations. The first mobility was in April 2015 to Finland, the second in November 2016 to Denmark, the third to Finland in February 2016 and the fourth to Denmark in April 2016. The patricipants have come from different groups of staff and have included teachers, school leaders, special education staff, a study counselor and youth counselors. On site with the partners the staff have been given a chance to see, reflect upon and talk about new ways of teaching and organizing teaching for these students. In Finland the staff have visited several schools for Second Language Learners to see how they have developed a good screening material for these students when they arrive in Finland. This in order to ensure that they have the best education possible. This form of screening has, after the first visit to Finland, been developed at our school as well and is now, after the second visit to Finland, in use for all second language learners who arrive at our school. The visits to Finland have also included visits to schools with SLL-students who have been in Finland for a few years. This has been in order to see how students who know some Finnish are integrated into the lessons given in various subjects in Finnish. In Denmark the staff have visited several different schools and institutions who work with students who want to focus on other things apart from studies. They have seen production schools, vocational schools and differents work-shops where students can work with learning different skills in order to get a job rather than continue on to higher education. This is something that we are planning on developing at our school and we have started looking at how this could be done at our school and together with vocational schools in our area. The visits to Denmark has been a great way to see how it can be organized and what needs to be developed in order for that kind of training to work for our students. The long-term benefits from this project are yet to be seen, but the goal is to have a trainee-program in a few years. We already have developed our screening for SLL-students and that is a direct benefit from the visits to Finland. We have gained a lot of valuable knowledge and experience in order to develop our schools further and hopefully have a greater success in students' results in their studies. The outcome of the project so far have been improved skills among staff, a new screening material for newly arrived immigrants and tools to develop a trainee-program to reduce dropouts.
