Integrating mindfulness into our educational practice

A core field of activity of LIMINA is - and will be even more so in future - the competence development in dealing with change and transition. We have noted in our training and consultancy work that particularly the increasing complexity and uncertainty connected to change processes produces a lot of stress on organisational level but especially on personal level, on the level of the staff. More and more people suffer under this stress up to the point of burn out.
There is therefore the need to further develop the organisation's activities and offers in the direction of strengthening personal capacities to deal with stress arising from uncertainty and complexity. The MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction)-programme is a very well elaborated and already widely practiced response to these needs; this is the right programme to complement our offers and services.
The Center for Mindfulness Research and Practice at the University of Bangor in Wales is a leading institute in Europe in this field. They offer excellent courses for trainers and teachers wanting to integrate mindfulness into their educational practice. This was exactly what LIMINA was looking for - and this is therefore in the center of this mobility project.
We will therefore send the two leaders of LIMINA responsible for training design and delivery to the following course:
"Teacher Training Retreat Level 1": It is a residential professional training retreat offering First Level Training to teach Mindfulness-based Courses. As an entry requirement the Center asks to have participated and accomplished the "8-weeks mindfulness-based-course" which they offer also as a distance course.
This seems to us the perfect offer for our needs for a few reasons:
- It would enable us to integrate elements of mindfulness into our trainings and consultancies in the field of developing competences for change and transition periods.
- We could develop training offers for teachers and trainers on mindfulness here in Austria - especially thinking of the school context.
It would support us in developing also offers on the European level in collaboration with our Danish partner TrainingConsult and others.
