Integrated Woodland Management to Protect and Promote Cultural and Natural Heritage

The principal aim of this project is to enhance structural diversity of regional woodlands by piloting experimental techniques on comparable pilot sites in Kent and in Nord-Pas de Calais and disseminating the findings for wider application. Changes in the use of woodlands have reduced diversity and particularly the amount of openspace 'in the form of glades or patches of heathlan' that were common features in the past and were of key significance for a variety of wildlife.Such diversity now has to be re-created / simulated by a management operations / habitat enhancement for the benefit of wildlife - integral to our cultural heritage - as well as public understanding and quality of life.
