First outcome of the project will be an overview on concepts of combining learning atout-of-school places with formal learning at school, existing in the participatingcountries, focused on the subject of environmentally friendly use of energy. Based onthese concepts best practice examples will be clarified. New training modules will bedesigned in co-operation with out-of-school learning places and new training courses forteachers will be developed. Existing curricula, learning conditions at school and needsof teachers will be taken into account for effective strategies of implementing out-ofschoollearning in school education. In the third stage these courses will be conducted,evaluated and improved. The course materials will be distributed among institutes ofteacher's trainings and out-of-school places of learning. Distribution channels will be e.g.publications and seminars. Main target groups are institutes for teacher's training andchairmen of out-of-school learning places (museums, environmental centres, etc.). It'sexpected that teachers and pedagogical employees will get new pedagogical, practicaluseful methods of teaching which stimulate the daily work of optimizing learningprocesses. The Faure-commission of UNESCO stated that informal learning formsabout 70 % of all human learning processes. Thus, strengthening the informal learningat school will probably improve the impact of school education. But, until now there areno studies which quantify and qualify the positive impact of informal learning. Informallearning often takes place at out-of-class learning locations like museums, centres ofenvironmental education or sciences centres trying knowledge transfer by entertainmentand hands-on experiences. The main objective of this project is to create synergies andlinks between out-of-school places of learning and curricular learning, thus improvingthe base of knowledge of European pupils. Efficient use of energy and renewableenergies will serve as the subject to analyse the potentials and needs and to createoptimized training courses for teachers. The subject of environmentally friendly energycovers social as well as scientific competences and - regarding the threat of the climatechange - also severe European problems to be solved. On the other hand out-of-schoolcentres of environmental education are well established in Germany and Latvia andthus the synergy-effects and training courses can be built on the existing basis. This willfoster the impact effectively.
