The aim and objectives of this project is to encourage students to find science subjects easier to grasp and to understand and offer skills to pursue careers in innovation, research and development (according to EU 2020 vision - to increase science literacy). New methodologies are constantly developed and to keep up what is happening it is important to have teacher training. Therefore teachers will be sent to two specialised teacher training courses - one of the best effective training is Inquire Based Learning(UK) and another Encourage Creative Learning (France). Hence, the teacher training is useful to develop new methodologies, and techniques that would encourage best practice and student centred pedagogies. This would promote active participation in society, enhance intercultural awareness, provide practical ideas and most importantly develop appropriate assessment and reporting methods that are based on learning outcomes. The result would be that teachers become proactive and not passive, and would support struggling students and extend those that are succeeding through the use of carefully chosen strategic questions. This training sessions are consolidated by visiting experienced schools where they can see the actual learning and teaching happening. The participants will visit a private school in Poland, state school under different region of Poland and another school in Italy to see how Inquire Based Learning (IBL) and Creative Thinking work in practice. At this stage, the participants will be doing job shadowing, by observing, teaching in the actual class and share resources and find what are the key to make a successful science lesson. Here, they see students’ contributions, including their mistakes, and scaffold learning using students’ reasoning and experience. Also, these schools (Poland and Italy) will visit our organisation (school) where they will have the opportunity to grasp the Maltese Educational system, its curriculum and will have opportunity to observe and teach lessons whilst they are here (job shadowing). This is extremely useful since both schools will gain new practical ways of teaching methodologies that enhances motivation, learning and the result would be that students would be able to think independently, apply knowledge in realistic problem solving situations. At this stage, all schools taking part would benefit on how creative learning and IBL can be applied and would share ways on how to support struggling students and to give skills to think independently, and to create a sense of student ownerships in the classroom and mostly to develop the ability to grasp knowledge and competencies as well as problem solving skills. There would be a great impact on the rest of the organisation where students should develop competencies to apply their knowledge in realistic problem-solving situations. They would also develop competencies for self-directed learning and will be keen to develop and explore new knowledge area. This will have a ripple effect with the rest of the organisation especially when these students are learning other subjects and can apply IBL - Inquire Based Learning and creative thinking skills when required. This will increase motivation and interest in science subjects and therefore would pursue a better positions in science career.
