Innovative Student Evaluation in Work Based Learning (ISE)

Internationalization is an essential part of the activity of training organizers. The aim of the European cooperation in vocational education and training is to increase comparability in Europe, which will promote the mobility of people studying in VET and of those who already have passed a vocational qualification. More and more students carry out studies abroad. There is a need to systematize methods and to find common practice between different countries. Besides that the ECVET system is going to be introduced in various countries in Europe. There are expectations towards curricula, too. The demand is moving away from a fragmented curriculum towards learning that is based on problems and phenomena. Structures of education will support collaborative teaching - at the end, teachers - and work place instructors - are the ones who enable the change towards education that promotes creativity (Oivallus project 2008-2011). The core idea of ISE Leonardo TOI project was to transfer the products of the Ammattisilta ESF project to European framework, i. e the pedagogical guidance model for work based learning. The aim was to improve the quality of work based learning both in Finland and in partner organizations abroad. The purpose was to develop the model further in cooperation with European partners. A special focus was on developing student assessment in the work based learning. The focus in assessment and in the use of different assessment methods ought to be moved from separate learning contents towards problem solving and understanding phenomena. Developing student evaluation is considered to be a central tool in making changes possible in teaching and in curricula. The consortium in the ISE project • Etelä-Kymenlaakso Vocational College, Finland • Klaipėdos siuvimo ir paslaugų verslo mokykla, Lithuania • Handwerkskammer Lübeck, Germany • Selçuklu Teknik ve Endüstri Meslek Lisesi, TurkeyThe main result of ISE project is innovative methods for student assessment in work based learning.
