INnovative curriculum for Strong Identities in Diverse Europe

The Partnership responds to the needs of youth facing identity-related developmental changes which are important for young people's subsequent functioning as individuals and as members of society. Persistent socio-economic inequalities, socio-cultural fragmentation and general lack of tolerance in present-day Europe hinder identity development for some young people, especially those from vulnerable backgrounds. Some youth experience stigmatization and exclusion based on core aspects of their identities, such as ethnicity, religion, social class, gender, sexual orientation or ability. Current geopolitical situation with record-high levels of refugees and international migration to and within Europe is creating a context in which challenges for identity-related youth transitions become even more salient. In response to increasingly challenging conditions for youth in Europe to form strong, healthy and empowering identities this Partnership aims is to build the capacity of students, teachers, researchers and youth workers to carry out identity-related applied and research work with youth by developing and disseminating an up-to-date, innovative evidence-based curriculum, teaching/ learning materials and practical tools, which will help to facilitate optimal identity development among diverse groups of young people, including those facing “threatened identities” in present-day Europe. The following are the objectives of this Partnership:1. By integrating research findings, teaching and practical youth work experiences to develop an interdisciplinary curriculum for an intensive training on youth identity development and tools to assess and facilitate optimal identity formation in young people;2. To strengthen and update academic programs and capacities of partner institutions by providing opportunities for students, teachers and researchers to build their knowledge on optimal identity development in youth and acquire new methods and tools to assess and facilitate optimal identities among diverse groups of youth in present-day Europe;3. To systematize and disseminate interdisciplinary knowledge and multicultural experience in identity-related applied and research work with youth in Europe;4. By developing an open educational e-platform to increase youth workers, civic organizations, non-formal educators, students, teachers and policy makers access to professional knowledge and evidence-based tools for assessing and facilitating optimal identity development in youth.The project will apply interdisciplinary, transnational and trans-sectoral approach and will seek to integrate research, teaching and innovative practical work with youth. The main activities of the project will be focused on development of intellectual outputs (three outputs over the course of the project): 1) course curriculum for an intensive program on optimal identity development among youth, 2) compendium of articles on identity-related research and applied work with youth, and 3) open educational resource on tools to facilitate optimal identity development in youth. Learning and teaching activities of the project will be closely connected to the development of the project outputs and will serve as testing and feedback environment for the outputs developed under the project. At the end of the project a transnational multiplier event will be held in order to disseminate and encourage utilization of the project outputs. The activities of the project will directly involve 50 university students, 10 to 15 university teachers, up to 20 researchers, several youth workers from the participating civic organization. Additional 2500 persons (youth workers, civic organizations, school administrators, students, teachers, researchers and policy makers active in the field of youth identity and empowerment) will benefit indirectly or will be targeted by the project dissemination activities. The project will result in a high-quality intellectual outputs available for interested parties: a course curriculum, compendium of articles and an open educational e-platform on youth identity development. The impact of the project will include expanded multicultural competences of project participants, improved academic English and ICT skills, strengthened international project management, multicultural and research competences and an applied perspective in research with youth. Youth workers will strengthen their methodological skills necessary for developing sound evaluation procedures for their practical work with youth. They will also expand their theoretical knowledge on optimal youth identity development and up-to-date research findings from different contexts in Europe. Participating institutions will also strengthen their ties and thus will expand their international cooperation possibilities.
