Project descriptionFreie evangelische Gemeinde (FeG) in Lueneburg pertains to Stiftung Freie evangelische Gemeinde in Norddeutschland (Foundation for free evangelical churches in the north of Germany). FeG is a Christian church that supports people in every situation in life, offers leisure activities, and familiarises peoples the faith in an all loving God.FeG is active in various areas of children’s and youth ministry: scouts’ ministry, teenager group, youth group, toddlers’ group, children’s Sunday service, camps, retreats, and training. Our offers are inclusive so that young people of different economical, cultural, educational, and familial backgrounds can come to our groups, such as children with disabilities or refugee children and young people. The aim is to offer meaningful leisure activities, to introduce children and young people to taking on responsibility for themselves but also for others and their environment, and to convey that they are unique beings loved by God.The main age group the volunteers are to work with is from the age of 6 to the age of 25. With our inclusion project we would like to achieve that diversity is recognised as an opportunity and that this opportunity is exploited by reacting to heterogenity in an appreciating way. A tolerant atmosphere based on Christian and humanitarian values is supposed lead to the everyone, and especially the volunteers, to taking on responsibility within their possibilities and thereby contributing to a successful project of inclusive working and living together.Tasks of the volunteersAfter an introductory period following their arrival, where the volunteers are going to focus on getting to know the project, the people, the language, and the main activities, the volunteers are going to take on responsibilities themselves in the regular meetings of the children’s, youth, and young adults groups. In these groups they can, depending on the interests and skills, prepare snacks, give instructions for games and activities, play musical instruments, act, take photos, film, and present their country, culture, and the Erasmus+ programme. The interaction with young people is going to be very important. At the end of their volunteer service the volunteers are going to plan and execute their own project. The project should be within their scope of activities in FeG Lueneburg and should correspond to the interests and skills of the volunteers. They are going to receive guidance and support for this project.Accommodation, meals, and transportationLueneburg has about 70,000 residents and is situated near Hamburg. There are a university, many cafés, restaurants, bars, cinemas, and a theatre. You can get everywhere easily by bicycle. The volunteers are going to have a bicycle each at their disposal and they are going to receive a ticket for the local buses in Lueneburg. The volunteers are going to stay with a host family near FeG or in a flat / shared apartment. Internet is available there. The volunteers are going to receive pocket money and meal allowance.Support during the projectThe volunteers are going to be supported in their work by different instructors and two supervisors. They are going to meet up with a mentor on a regular basis to help them settle in the new culture, to be able to get support when problems or questions arise, to formulate learning objectives, and to evaluate these. All these measures of non-formal learning are going to support the volunteers in developing and further developing their competencies in the area of communication, team work, willingness to learn, independence, sense of responsibility, international competencies, and other soft skills. Our aim is that the volunteers become active and mature citizens of the European Union, that the Member States of the European Union grow closer together, that the volunteers develop a European awareness, and that a peaceful long-term working and living together emerges through getting to know each other, good partnerships and strong friendships.LanguageThe volunteers do not need to have any knowledge of German, but they should be willing to learn the language to be able to communicate with the children, teenagers, and young adults. The volunteers are going to learn German through online linguistic support (OLS) and conversation meetings on a regular basis.Project term and profile of the volunteersWe would like to have two volunteers for eleven months from September 2016 through July 2017 and again two volunteers from September 2017 through July 2018, if possible from Slovakia and Spain. We preferably take volunteers with fiewer opportunities especially those volunteers who have any economical, geographical, or educational hindrances. The volunteers should be open for new experiences and a new culture. They should also be open to the Christian religion as well as other religions. We welcome it when volunteers contribute their own ideas (even crazy ones).
