The project is about inclusion:
Inclusion in education is an approach to educating children with special educational needs but also the recognition of diversity and differences.
Under the inclusion model, children with special needs spend most or all of their time with non-disabled students. Inclusion is about the child’s right to participate and the school’s duty to accept the child. Inclusion rejects the use of special schools or classrooms to separate students with disabilities from students without disabilities. A premium is placed upon full participation by students with disabilities and upon respect for their social, civil, and educational rights.
Profile and number of participants:
Trainees for nursery school teachers in their second year. Expected Number of participants in 2014/15: 35
Aims and expected results:
Inclusion in education has developed in Germany. England and Ireland have a longer tradition on inclusion. Can German „Kindergärten“ learn from that?
There are mainly two aims: The students get a closer look at the situation in England (society and in pre-schools ) They identify common features and differences in inclusion
The students analyse aspects like training of nursery school teachers, special schools, differences between day care centres and Nursery Schools, etc.
Expected results include that the students will learn about a very multi-ethnic community, too.
Activities in Dublin and Nottingham:
Homestay: Students stay with families / full board
1st week: English Classes (and a City tour)
2nd and 3rd week: work placements
Proposal for Erasmus+ visit to Nottingham August/September 2014/15 in Detail:
Students arrive and are collected from airport by ‘wobblywheels’ and taken for a city tour. In the evening the students meet host families (homestay/full board)
1st week: Language school in the mornings.
Afternoon: different activities: visit to Council House (Nottingham is our Twin City and we are invited to many activities), Indian supper in Nottingham, narrowboat experience, practice run and introductory visit to placement.
Visit to Galleries of Justice, students visit London
Placement in the mornings (8.00am – 1.00pm): visit Nottingham Castle / Brewhouse Yard musuem
afternoon: information about "inclusion in England" at Nottingham Nursery school 2 – 4pm, monitoring
visit Wollaton Hall and Park for guided tour.
Placement and visits to Primary schools (one of these school visits will be the Nottingham Nursery School)
Long term benefits:
The students have the opportunity for intercultural experience and to broaden their horizons. Expanding competence in a professional and personal way.
The extended visit to another culture and to acknowledge the support of their own ‘team’ members while away – greater depth of discussion than while doing a course at home, comparing notes and what they have seen and done.
