ing the disappearing Islands by the Border (HU-RO Nature 2)
Date du début: 29 févr. 2012, Date de fin: 29 mars 2013 PROJET  TERMINÉ

In the border region of Hajdú-Bihar and Bihor counties there are three neighbouring Hungarian-Romanian Natura 2000 site pairs. Our plot is to measure the presence of the indicator species, survey their populations and create spread/population maps. For the area called Lenhely, we set up scything regulations together with the local councils and the concerned land-owners and farmers. We organise actions and activities with the aim of improving or preserving the status of the selected areas (for example by eliminating illegal landfills on the Romanian side, and pushing back invasive species). Another important thing is the installation and monitoring of bird protection devices. As for raising awareness, we inform the local inhabitants by street actions and school lectures about the natural values in their environment and the possible steps in order to protect them. We would also inform the owners and farmers of Natura 2000 areas and have a counselling service about their obligations and opportunities regarding the protection of the natural values. The direct beneficiaries of the project are those who participate in the Natura 2000 forum for farmers and agricultural workers or ask the counselling service. Also direct beneficiaries are the land-owners, and the conservation management organisations whose sites we selected for the research. Further direct beneficiaries are the children and teachers visited with a vivid and interesting lecture in order to bring conservation closer to them and to present the natural values of the border region. The estimated number of direct beneficiaries is between 1,200 and 1,800 people. The main specific activities of the project are on-site research, conservation counselling and expertise, conservation activities and actions.
