PROJET
TERMINÉ
This project is a short term EVS mobility project called "Inclusion Through Environment and Culture". The project will take place in Reykjavik, Iceland and the activities will last between the 10th of august 2016 and the 30 of september 2016.This project concerns one volunteer: Lyderic Yabada, a 20 year old man from the neighborhood of Molenbeek, Brussels, Belgium, with economic, social and cultural obstacles. Lyderic has come in contact with the sending organization SVI through his young coach and mentor from the municipality of Molenbeek. He is supported by both this mentor and the one from SVI, and will be supported in Iceland by his EVS tutor, Monika, from SEEDS. The partners of this project, SVI and SEEDS, have been in a partnership since their creation and have great experience of sending and receiving each others' volunteers. They have built a qualitative relationship of trust and good practices.Non formal education methods will be used during this project where Lyderic will gain a better understanding of environmental issues, the culture of the hosting country (Iceland), volunteering in general, as well as interculturality. The larger objectives of this project are to allow Lyderic to valorize his skills, raise awareness about international mobilities to his peers back in Molenbeek and also show the other international volunteers another image of Molenbeek than the one present in the media in the last months. The activities he will be involved in are various and include:GardeningCultural eventsFacilitating team bulding activitiesPhotographyEnvironmental learning through photography and field work...Regarding the impact, it will affect Lyderic, as well as the local communities. The activities will help Lyderic him develop skills such as taking initiative, independance, team work, english skilss, intercultural communication, ... With the support of his mentors, we hope Lyderic can gain confidence and find the way to new horizons (professional and personal). As he has no means right now to participate in mobilities, this will give him a first international experience. The larger target group is the youth of Molenbeek and the NEETS of Belgium which are mostly unaware of mobility opportunities, especially through Erasmus + programme. We hope that by word of mouth through the beighborhood and by organizing information sessions (in Molenbeek, in SVI's network and online), we will spread the information about those opportunities and raise interest from the youth, especially the less fortunates, to participate in such projects. In a context of the rise of extremism and the frequent use of stereotypes in the media, this project gives the chance to show another image of Molenbeek's youth to the international volunteers participating in the workcamps in Iceland. We hope that they can spread their experience back home to their countries and that they can contribute to changing the stereotypes existing about Molenbeek's youth. The project is one of a kind because it is the first EVS project lead by SVI, the first EVS collaboration between SEEDS and SVI and the fist time Lyderic participates in a mobility project and takes charge of himself. He has already shown great initiative and motivation for the project which is really encouraging for the development of the project. We hope this project can emulate new ones in the target groups we are reaching.
