Our school joined the early English program Den Bosch (suchfun.nl) this year and we implemented English throughout the school (groups 1 through 8). During these classes, the children are taught in English only. Both the native speaker and the classroom teacher only speak English to the pupils during these lessons. The plan is to make sure that, when the program ends, all the teachers will be able to give these English lessons themselves. There are teachers in each key stage that are interested in playing a key role and therefor they would love to go to the UK for a teacher training.We hope, that by training a core group of our classroom teachers we will be able to coach the rest of our team and make sure that they too can improve their proficiency and confidence. I expect this will lead to more mobility between our schools and schools abroad in the future.So far 6 of our staff are interested in following a course in the methodology and language for primary school teacher provided by the Pilgrims institute in Canterbury. Already one of our staff has followed such a course. The average content of suc a course will be as followed:* group bounding * how children learn * classroom language and management * MI * teaching pronunciation * arts and crafts * scaffolding * games, songs, chants&rhymes * listening and speaking skills * dramaform: plenary sessions, teamwork, workshops (drama and story telling), excursions.All of these activities will be presented in the course and implemented in our lessons in the English language.We expect that the results will be a better understanding of the English language of our students and more confidence and language improvement in our staff. These will also be long term benefits.Long term plans involve implementing the English language in other lessons such as biology, geography or science.
