Impulso de las lenguas y internacionalización del Colegio Maristas Valldemia
Date du début: 1 juin 2015, Date de fin: 31 mai 2017 PROJET  TERMINÉ

For some time now, our school, Maristas Valldemia, has set for itself the goal of internationalization. With this aim, we have a linguistic project called "Let's communicate", which we have started to develop this academic year. Working collaboratively, we have created a project which has allowed us to increase the number of hours in which students are exposed to English in primary school: two more hours per course. One of these hours is an English lesson, while the other equals to a physical education class taught in English. The name “Let's Communicate” has its origin in our wish to get the English language out of the classroom and to share the learning processes with students from other countries. For this reason, we work collaboratively with the Sutton Oak Primary School. We are also currently developing a multilateral Comenius project which is carried out with schools from Denmark, France, England and Ireland; students look at how the last hundred years have been shaped, through history, games, literature and nature, among others. The strategic pillars in our school are Basic Competences, Technology and Foreign Languages. In order to promote the learning process and help students become aware of the importance of speaking other languages, while opening themselves to new realities, we have set up two exchange programs with two different schools. One with a school from Eindhoven, designed for non-compulsory secondary education students, and another one with a school from Lyon, aimed at French students who are fifteen and older. We will soon start one with a school in Hamburg. Four teachers and a member of the lead team will take part in this project. They will receive teacher training in methodology, and learn the English language. They will also receive training in school leadership and school management. The short term objective is that those participating teachers will improve their teaching in the classroom and within the internationalization project of the school. Long term, we believe that this teacher training and job shadowing will be key to the strengthening of of the school project which at present is at its beginnings. This project involves more and more members of the faculty as it progresses. The context of crisis we are living nowadays worries us considerably. We believe that it is of great importance that our students will have the language skills and also the general abilities to be able that will open doors for them when they go into higher education or when they pursue a career. We believe it is important that they travel to other countries and that they welcome people from different cultures to their homes and school. This will surely help them realize that there are in fact many things that bring people together if they are willing to establish bonds of friendship. We are positive that with this internationalization project we opening our students' eyes to a world which will appeal to them as full of opportunities. At the same time, we are providing them with the tools which will enable them to gather the knowledge and skills necessary to turn these opportunities into reality.
