The need of Direzione Didattica of Vignola to improve the quality of English teaching has given birth to the project" Improving the quality of foreign language teaching".
The aims of the project are the following: to improve teacher's linguistic and methodological-didactic skills, to acquire new teaching methods and tools in order to increase pupils' motivation and enthusiasm, to share materials and ideas with teachers of other European Countries, to become familiar with new cultures and different scholastic systems, to create projects shared with other European schools using also E-twinning, to open to a European dimension, to pass on a multilingual education, to help the inclusion of foreign and disabled pupils and those with special educational needs.
To represent the four primary schools, eight teachers have been selected who are characterized by skills, enthusiasm, motivation and willingness to coordinate future initiatives of the school regarding the second language. The aim is to form figures who can be support and a point of reference for all their colleagues (above all in vocational training) through workshop, refresher courses, parallel classes planning . The candidates have ICT skills and a linguistic level of at least B1. Moreover they are permanent employees so they guarantee continuity in diffusing the reluts acquired, during the next school year.
As of next school year, the Direzione Didattica of Vignola expects to organize initiatives aimed at enhancing English teaching : experiences of correspondence, theater plays, english days, city camps during the school period, summer camps during the holiday, study trips for pupils of the fifth class. Complementary to the project "Improving the quality of foreign language teaching", there is the certified etwinning project "Let's play badminton" which the Direzione Didattica of Vignola has elaborated in cooperation with Turkey and Netherland. Besides teachers will use CLIL metholology in order to consider English not only a subject but also a way to learn all the subjects through a constant exposure to the language.
The relapse will be effective not only for the duration of the project (a school year), but also for the next school years; it will be exactly in the long time that the results will be diffused in an optimal way and the project" Improving the quality of foreign language teaching" will be translated in good daily practise that will become the "modus operandi" of all the teachers of the D.D. of Vignola.
The project ,included in the Educational Policy Plan, will published on the D.D, 's site and advertised through meetings with other schools in the territory and a regional level through articles in newspaper and specialized magazines. The thanks to the European Union for its support will be advertised.
Considering the size of schools (1831 pupils and 229 teachers ), the project is characterised by the high number of potential beneficiaries.
The technical-scientific committee (consisting of professors, deans, the headmaster, the vice-headmaster of the primary school, the coordinator of the nursey school, the administrative assistant director, the coordinator of the project) will guarantee the quality of the project in all its steps and will evaluate its validity also through tests.
