The project “Improving Lithuanian Hotel Services through Capacity Building Practice” includes four schools from different parts of Lithuania. None of them come from the capital and all are providing vocational education to their students in the field of Hotel and Tourism management in general. We also did not forget to focus on rather remote areas (two schools are from such areas) in order to include more youngsters that are facing geographical limitations, ones that are not so often offered the possibility to be included in initiatives like this one.
Concretely via this project the youngsters from the Veisiejai, Radviliškis, Panevėžys and Klaipėda will be included. Each school will send 8 students, who will follow a practical training in a modern, well renowned and experienced hotel – Campanile de Las Rosas in Madrid, Spain. This hotel meets all of the needed criteria for adequate internship for the students as it has already hosted numerous foreign and domestic apprentices. At the same time it has a wide variety of facilities that attract a serious number of guests throughout the year. These conditions provide for suitable, well-structured and impact lasting as well as sustainable training.
We will include 37 participants in total, out of which 32 are students and 5 are accompanying staff from partner schools. Teachers will support, mentor and monitor the students along with the staff of the hotel. During the work that will be done we will use open and inclusive approach with interactive methodology that will allow for each of the students to take part in all of the envisaged activities.
The objective of the project is to provide a memorable internship abroad for the students which will boost their knowledge, skills, competences and experience. It is important to mention that some schools involved in this project have little experience in the Erasmus+ Programme, so the project will help them to learn more about it. Also one partner school from Radviliškis works with students with mild mental disabilities, so the project is rich not only of practical aspect, but also of the social one: students with mild mental disabilities are involved in the project as equivalent with other students and it will be a good opportunity for participants to break stereotypes and let students to know more about each other’ differences.
The general issues and needs that are going to be tackled by this project will focus on the following:
1) improve the skills of students to deal with guests from abroad and in a foreign language;
2) give the students the possibility to be part of an international team that does the planning and management of a large touristic complex;
3) improve the time management skills;
4) develop their foreign language and general communication skills;
5) bring back new ideas for further development and improvement of the vocational education and training in our country.
The staff of the host hotel is well trained in terms of well assisting the pupils and providing information in a well-structured manner and also has adequate English (and other) language skills so that the communication can be done without limitation. The host partner has also provided a working programme for the students that included five main areas:
1. restaurant, serving and presentation of menu:
2. kitchen preparation;
3. reception and basic administrative functions;
4. housekeeping, rooms inventory and organisation.
5. sales and marketing
