Improved Competences in staff and Organisational Development
Date du début: 1 juin 2015, Date de fin: 31 mai 2017 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Context/background: Our school has a great need to enhance the quality of our mathematical education in several ways, including new methods using new technology, ICT. Partly due to the fact that all our pupils are native born Swedes, we also has a great need to achieve greater understanding in our pupils for social and cultural differences. At our school we have three “First Teachers”, which means that those teachers have an extra responsibility for school development during the next three years, especially in the following subjects and topics: *Mathematics: Get greater understanding for mathematics in our pupils, especially in those who needs extra help. Increase the possibilities for the high performers to achieve even better results. Develop new and innovative methods of using ICT (Information and Communication Technology). *Motivation of our pupils, their awareness of the goals of the curriculum, and pedagogical plans in order to guarantee correct assessment in subjects. *Work concerning the pupils´ wellbeing and self-esteem, in order to prevent any kind of harassment and discrimination. Our headmistress since last year runs a project, called PRIO, in different schools in the Municipality of Motala. PRIO stands for Planning, Results, Initiative and Organisation, and is very much in line with our wish to establish an international dimension. Objectives: The identification of needs has influenced our choice of measures and we have as a result opted for job shadowing activities together with a partner school in Italy that can provide added value referred to contexts of creativity and innovation of teaching strategies based on ICT. Their aim to develop social and civil skills meets our needs for developing work in order to prevent harassment and discrimination, and their aim to develop critical conscience and evaluation meets our needs concerning the student´s awareness of the goals of the curriculum and how to reach them. Both schools run development projects towards new and innovative teaching methods, so we therefore believe that this international partnership would be very valuable for both teachers and pupils. We also believe that it would lead to greater understanding concerning equality and social integration. Number and profile of participants: Nykyrka school is a small school, so the eight participants cover most of the staff and the whole range of teachers, from preschool teachers to primary school teachers and also our headmistress. The participants of course include the three “First Teachers”, as they have the extra responsibility for school development during the following three years. Description of activities: Sessions of job shadowing at each school, where the participants will be able to share experiences in the focus areas mentioned above. Methology to be used in carrying out the project: Thorough documentation of the job shadowing through the use of diaries, logbooks and new technology. Reflections and evaluation together with the tutor of the partner school at the end of each job shadowing period. Seminars where participants will share their experiences will be held in different networks for our own staff, for other schools, for headmasters, and also if possible for the top management group of the Municipality of Motala. Description of the results and impact envisaged and potential longer term benefits: The expected results can be described both as short-term effects referring to individual development and long-term ones as an improvement of the educational offer, a continuous professional development of the whole staff, a deepened knowledge of educational systems and enhanced opportunities for European cooperation. All together, we hope that this project will be a small-scale contribution to the Europe 2020 strategy and to national and local priorities.
