An opportunity has arisen to participate in an 8-day immersion programme in Scotland which will consist in language and methodology training for teachers of Secondary Schools to enhance the target language lessons and introduce new pedagogical approaches to further motivate and increase students' attainment levels. The course aims to fulfill a number of goals: participants will share their knowledge of and analyze a range of language policies. Ways of implementing and enhancing the four language skills (talking, listening, reading, writing) will be discussed. The course encourages a full school approach to the teaching of languages, within a comprehensive framework which takes into consideration the school's current status and vision for the future. The school's needs will be identified and activities will be planned to address these needs. Such needs may include, but are not limited to, staff competence and motivation in terms of language knowledge and understanding, an increase of cultural awareness for all shareholders including parents and students and the development of new teaching practices eg. Immersion techniques. The two participants will bring the newly acquired knowledge to the service of the school community by sharing th experience through social media, such as school website and formal training, namely Professional Development. This will help more teachers to implement the new national curriculum. This will also create opportunities of collaboration between our school and other schools from other member states of the European Union. This network will be used not only to exchange good practices but also to help raise awareness amongst all stakeholders that they make part of a broader vision of the EU. Once cultural links have been established students will be able to use ICT to communicate with other schools in the UK and abroad.
