How to Foster your Dreams- experimental general entrepreneurial skill development programme for youth based on agricultural activityIntroductionBasic knowledge, skills are needed for a successful entrepreneurship, even for launching one. These have a surprisingly wide range from legal knowledge to IT, computer skills.Entrepreneurial skill development programmes that already exist and are known to us are in many ways hard to take in for youth. This programme mainly wants to support establishing, enhancing the mindset needed for business activity and to set an acting, decisive behaviour. It does so while accountability and responsibility is continuously being a part of the programme. This programme is mainly for young people in their twenties and who are interested in business life. Therefore the formal dissemination of itemised knowledge is secondary in its methodology. In contrast, experience, “learning by doing” and last but not least the measurability of the effectiveness of the activity is emphasised. The programme is based on that it shows the challenges of business life by a specific activity, small-scale vegetable cultivation at home. This is not an agricultural programme. Horticulture and agriculture in general is an activity that shows its effectiveness in foreseeable time – one year. Furthermore, food is a market product, a part of our daily life, definitely a business activity. Therefore it can be a basis of business activity simulation due to its brief, less than a year long cycle. The participants can become familiar with various concepts of business life by products made by their manual labour from income-expense through business administration to the basics of marketing. Therefore they will be able to connect what they learn, what would otherwise be an abstract knowledge can materialise. ”How to Foster your Dreams” Programme is an experimental general entrepreneurial skill development programme for youth based on agricultural activity. Participants in the Programme are not farmers. Showing rural, farmer lifestyle is not a goal of the Programme but an eventual non-primary by-product. The content of the ProgrammeIn its current form, the Programme is experimental because it follows a methodology that has not been existed before. Therefore this application serves to refine, finalise this methodology according to practical experiences. The Programme involves the main aspects of entrepreneurial activity. Therefore especially:- administration related to start and functioning an entrepreneurship- marketing basics- IT solutions supporting business activity- basics of economy (e.g. profit, return, investment need)- basics of financing- communication and negotiation techniqueWhat is mentioned above means that horticulture and agricultural activity makes it possible to simulate a real entrepreneurship. The basic concepts of business – income, expense, profit, resource and labour input – can be interpreted related to horticultural activity. These can be fixed into the framework of general business administration – booking. This is all complemented by the targeted use of IT tools, solutions. The structure, procedure of the programmeParticipants get basic concepts, starting points in the Programme by which they must get knowledge for themselves and to report on it. Therefore mentoring as support is very pronounced. The Programme is supported during the whole period by a constant group of experts with dual roles. On the one hand, they provide the basics in the traditional way and non-formal trainings. After that, their role is transformed, they provide consultational support if needed and they evaluate individual work by participants related to the given topics.A finance, booking, marketing, IT, legal expert and of course a horticulturalist participate in the team of experts.Due to the simulation environment, participants have to get familiar with the basics of horticulture, too. According to the plans, participants will cultivate well-usable, easily cultivatable vegetables, plants (radish, peas, carrot, lemongrass, mint, tomato) on 20 square metres of own land. Participants will get substantial advisory support for agricultural productional activitym they only need to immerse themselves in it more seriously if they have an own need to do so.The Programme is publicised by unique websites and social media pages showing the activity of the participants. The participants of the Programme are selected by an application process. Due to the experimental nature of the Programme, we only calculate with 15 participants.A total of 7 thematic trainings are provided for the participants in the Programme and its results will be shown at a closing event. Continuous mentoring is provided for the participants during the Programme.
