Creativity in learning is often highlighted as a skill essential for success.Teacher need to prepare its young people for life and work in an uncertain economic and social environment if they are to thrive in an era of increasingly rapid change.
We have tried an approach moving around the school everyday to different classrooms. These excursions developed independence, and confidence. It reflected to satisfy students' desire for novel experiences. Even if it was such a simple event, it ignited the students' innovation. It was our starting point for the project.
There will be 8 teachers from different branches, 2 administrator in the project team. Many of us have worked on at least one national or European project and we are all eager to learn and carry on our professional development. The project team is dynamic and flexible. The target group compose of 175 students aged 11-14. The team will be supported and monitored by Mersin local R&D department of National Education and some of Mersin University Education Faculty instructors.
A key element in enabling students to develop creative skills is to help them to take greater responsibility for planning and managing their own learning. The need to establish open-ended approaches to learning, where learners and teachers work together to explore a theme, is a constant theme. We will broaden and enhance the learning experience.
The creative process will involve investigating a problem or issue, exploring multiple viewpoints and options, generating and testing out ideas, developing, refining and communicating solutions and evaluating whether or not they work. The school will carry out range of activities and approaches undertaken by an individual which supports the development of creativity and other skills.
We will make 'Leadership for creativity through the school' event. . All children will be involved in at least one school committee to develop the work of the school. This impacts positively on planning of learning as well as on practical and environmental aspects of school life. A group of elder students will form a steering group to design a creative learning project for youngers.
Next event will be 'Technology to Support Creativity' . The students will be given PowerPoint slides for a movie and will be asked to provide music, sound effects and narration.
We will arrange an event on mathematics. The students will reinforce learning in mathematics and enterprise by researching the sales of some local companies. They will then present the information visually, imagining that these will be presented to sales teams.
We will organise another event in which the students will have to present summarised accounts of English written pieces in ways that develope their creative skills while reinforcing their knowledge and understanding.
Next event will be on Social Studies. The students will carry out a drama task based on improvisation. They will use a range of drama conventions to establish scenarios, investigate characters, and devise scripts and settings. The children will make use of technology in the task by recording and sharing discussions, taking photographs or making film clips as their ideas develope.
Afterward we will arrange 'Freestyle Dancing' activity. A mixed level, mixed mobility group at school will be led by a dance teacher in a dance and movement workshop. Open-ended freestyle movement will be demanded of the pupils, who will be encouraged to take ownership of their choice of movement.
Also we will organise different kinds of prize competitions among our students and then with other schools to ignite their innovation and enhance their creativeness.
In order to create more interesting and productive lessons and professionally lead creative nad contructive thinking sessions, the teachers will attend two different training activity in two different countries.
1.Creative Methodology for teachers ,UK (in August-At the beginning of the project)
2. Teaching creativity in schools, Slovenia (in October)
Attendance to activities will also raise our cultural awareness and encourage greater tolerance and respect for diversity.
Almost all the lessons which aim to develop aspects of creativity will generate a positive, lively and well-focused learning environment, with children encouraged to contribute ideas and suggestions. The development of creativity skills will help the teachers and the students to realise their potential, develop positive habits of mind and influence positively all areas of their lives. The students' self-assess will be improved , which leads to more insight amongst them about their personal strengths and areas for development.
The project will help to raise the standards of education and the school and increase the quality of education for students. We will know more about different methods on creative teaching using in EU countries and find out the weaknesses of our methods and try to strengthen them.
