ICT Content Integrated Online Business English Language Learning for Adult Dyslexics

Increasing success in the European business environment requires competent literacy skills in more than one language. However, traditional teaching methods exclude many individuals, especially dyslexics. Dyslexia can be considered a special way of thinking and learning, which needs a special way of teaching. Dyslexics have trouble with reading and writing in their first language and are often excluded from lessons in the second language due to assumptions about their learning ability in this new field. The especially designed technology enhanced learning environments and content integrated language learning can considerably help dyslexics to improve their language skills and thus prepare them better for the multilingual European labor market and business environment. The ICTBELL project will create a specially designed Business English Language Learning ICT-based integrated content and a virtual learning environment (VLE) where the dyslexic learners, normally having problems with language learning, can thrive through the integrated e-learning content, virtual learning environment and online tutorage (human supervision). This will include the extensive use of rich-multimedia content and an adaptive personalised user interface designed to accommodate personal learning preferences of the adult dyslexics. The partnership that will implement the proposal is formed by organizations-experts in areas such as Dyslexia, language learning and ICT enhanced learning (e-learning). The well balamced composition of the partnership guarantees the quality completion of the project. The major tangible project outcomes will be:1. ICT integrated Business English language learning electronic content (e-content)2. Test methodology and online tutoring handbook for trainers3. Virtual learning environment (VLE) - open source based4. Project website with integrated virtual collaborative environment (VCE) The intangible outcomes are expected to not only impact upon how adult dyslexics are taught languages, but may also make content and language learning tool developers look at the wider potential of learning through electronic media. The successful integration of new technology into the learning content will speed-up the language learning process, positively impact upon test scores, engage dyslexic learners and thus have much better command of the language.
