The project came out of the need of our organization to promote a wider European dimension of teaching and to acquire more skills in terms of innovative teaching and new technologies. The environment in which we operate is very complex: a very heterogeneous social background where there is a high percentage of immigrants from European and non-European countries; the growing phenomenon of failure and drop-outs; a high number of pupils with disabilities and special educational needs.
Many teachers and colleagues had expressed the desire to renew their educational approach and acquire more effective educational skills. Taking part in this European project was seen as a positive chance to increase their own competences and train students to multiculturalism and positive exchange between cultures. By taking part in this project we intented to achieve some objectives which we consider essential in our European Development Plan:
- to develop creative and innovative strategies to cope with the complexity of heterogeneous and multicultural classes and to contain the drop-out phenomenon;
- to develop skills and abilities in the use of new technologies in order to improve students’ motivation;
- promote European cooperation in the field of education;
- develop skills in planning, organization and access to European projects in order to improve the quality of our organization according to the European regulations.
In this mobility project participated five teachers and our Headmaster. The teachers were selected according to specific criteria established by a committee appointed for that purpose. The mobility activities included: creativity in education as a means to increase students’ motivation; the use of new technologies in educational practice; the planning and management of Erasmus+ European projects.
The entire project had a holistic approach and the methodology used during the activities was inspired from the constructivist pedagogy, centered on the needs and expectations of the participants and practice-oriented. A special emphasis was laid on self-assessment and on a self-directed learning process.
At the end of the project we can tell that it had a very positive impact on:
- the participants, who improved their professional, personal and language skills, the use of new technologies and their capacity in planning European projects;
- our institute/school, in increasing its European dimension and creating new collaborations and partnerships;
- our students, thanks to the promotion of a culture which looks at the diversity as a value.
