The risk factors for cardiovascular diseases (predisposition, eating habits, smoking, inactivity, heredity and family traditions) dont stop at the borders. To address all the common prevention problems in the French- Belgian cross-border area, joint action is needed. For this project, the partners promote a structured health education approach based on the patient as manager of his own health. To achieve results, the partners promote a closer cooperation between the healthcare system and the socio-educational sector on both sides of the border. As a result, the patient will receive support that goes well beyond simple information and may result in behaviour change. To improve the health and quality of life of people living in the border area, the partners created a French-Belgian cross-border body to coordinate common projects on the prevention of cardiovascular diseases. They also collected data on cardiovascular diseases and risk factors with the aim of developing an awareness-raising method for the French-Belgian cross-border population at risk. People are encouraged toparticipate in health evaluation assessments and to make arrangements for treatment if necessary. Finally, awareness campaigns encourage young people to behave responsibly on health issues, in particular regarding eating habits and smoking.
