I SUPPORT WORKCAMPS FOR WHAT THEY BRING

The French organizations, members of Cotravaux network, had shared some analysis: in the recent years, some unbalances occurred in the international exchanges and fewer workcamps were organized in France and some countries. Yet the interest in this type of action remains. In France, associations try to promote the workcamps and to show their effects as in local development of the territories that in personal course for the young people who participate. Associations try to preserve the balance of volunteers within the international exchanges (incoming or outgoing), while they have to mobilize local, regional and national funding.
So, French associations wanted to share their reflections on the place of international workcamps projects in different European countries. They wished to compare their analysis about national contexts with other associations in Europe. They also wished to know if studies were conducted, what kind of argumentations was held to promote, what topics and kind of media communication, etc?
Another issue of the meeting was that the regional associations of Cotravaux are very concerned by the topics which were identified. In fact, they are less involved in international networks, carried by the national headquarters. It was a good point to confront some regional issues that they cope with other national contexts in Europe help to expand their knowledge.
Therefore, they proposed the idea of a seminar: 10 European partners and 15 people from Cotravaux network -national and regional French associations - have declared their interest. SFERA, Russian organization, withdrew from the project, end of 2014, for internal reasons.
The seminar was held over 3 days, 12 to 14 of January, in Paris (easy access for long distance travels).
Objectives: a better knowledge of various contexts and practices in several countries; learning from different realities; suggest new ideas for each organization in order to promote the activities and to seek funding. Several guidelines have been identified:
- Strategy to valorize the international workcamps from local to national (tools and studies)
- Strategy to set up partnerships and to communicate with other (organizations, networks, public authorities)?
- Economic strategy
We mainly discussed in workshops (groups of 7-8 people) to allow exchanges on the 3 strategic issues.
Participants: 25 people (maximum planned). Requested profile: people in charge of actions, involved in their organizations (staff member or volunteers) in order to provide information.
The objectives have been achieved. At the final evaluation, the participants expressed their satisfaction: the discussions “refreshed” and brought new ideas and energy. They went back to their organization with new inspirations and convictions renewed.
