Date du début: 1 juin 2014, Date de fin: 31 mai 2015 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Lesvos Island’s economy is based at a rate of 79 %, on olive products. The economic development of the island is well connected with the fruiting periods of the olive grove. There are about 12,000,000 olive trees on the island, distributed in small and medium-sized lots. Almost every family has its own olive trees. All the inhabitants are engaged in the harvesting of olives, either as farmers as their main profession, and either by completing their income as a part time job. Indeed, the vast majority belongs to the second category. The distribution of the produced olive oil, is in the form of olive oil in bulk ( 80 % ), exported mainly to Italy. Given the direct dependence of Lesvos economy from olive cultivation, the professional and the supplementary employment of the islanders with the olive cultivation, the lack of modern methods of cultivation, also the lack of expertise on the development and promotion of olive products and the rising unemployment, turning to occupations in primary sector is absolutely necessary for the island. The main objective of the project is the training of students in the subjects of the olive cultivation and the olive oil products, in a European country as Italy, which absorbs almost 80 % of the olive oil production of Lesvos. Particular emphasis will be given to the acquisition of knowledge, experience, performances, and a culture of cooperation and extraversion. The participation of the students in the program will help them: a) To be informed about European farming methods, standardization and certification of olive and its products. b) To be familiar with the markets where their oil production is distributed. c) To explore the possibilities of adaptation and application of these methods in their homeland production. d) To get familiar with the training provided on matters of olive abroad. e) To develop spirit of cooperation f) To understand the need for extroversion in the entire spectrum of the manufacturing process g) To expand their personal and professional perspectives. The aim and purpose of our project is training of 13 students in initial vocational training: 1) At the level of knowledge: Briefing in European farming methods of olive production, standardization, packaging and certification of its products, that makes them competitive and exportable. 2) At the level of skills: To be able to apply these methods in olive farms on the island of Lesvos and become multipliers of relevant knowledge and experience, since all the inhabitants are engaged in the olive cultivation. 3) At the level of attitudes : To understand the value and the necessity to turn to occupations in the primary sector , using European methods which will contribute to the sustainable development of the island and also the development of trainees as members of a large European labor market . All activities in the host country will be undertaken by the host partner. This will cover inland transportation, accommodation, nutrition, program evaluation, certificate of attendance of program and all professional visits. These will be visits and observation of the new processing methods and packaging of the products of olive, organic farming methods and processing of the products of olives, olive processing steps , ways of advertising and promoting products of olive within and outside the production site, at respectively mills and oil companies . Also, the partner will organize meetings with local institutions associated with the object of training, where there will be exchange of views on ways of processing and exploitation of olive products in both countries Greece and Italy, and on the existing problems in economic exploitation of the production. There will also be a cultural tour to San Marino, in order to let the participants get in touch with the host country’s culture. The sending organization will undertake activities related to the preparation of the implementation of the project, define the time period that the program will run, make the selection of participants and their preparation in cultural and linguistic level for the visit to the host country . Additional the sending organization will undertake the arrangements of the traveling of participants which will be instructed to a travel agency, and also a part of the evaluation of the project. a) Expected results: Returning home Trainees, become proficient to get involved in the primary production and implement new European methods of cultivation, processing and distribution of the olive and its products so that they will be competitive in the European market . b) Dissemination of results: 1. Organization of a Colloquium about the content of the program, in which there will be display of photographic and video material, speeches, and presentations of the trainees about their experiences. 2. Creation of printed matter about the program in collaboration with the Decentralized Administration of Northern Aegean and the Administration of Seco
