HST Platform
Date du début: 30 juin 2001, Date de fin: 30 déc. 2004 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The action project High-Speed Train Platform (HST), addresses sustainable mobility management. Over 3 years the Dutch-led initiative involving 16 partners from the UK, Belgium and Germany will endeavour to improve the effectiveness of the high-speed rail network currently under development, in order to exploit its potential both locally and internationally. The objective is to improve the internal accessibility of the NWE region, in light of the close approximation of European capital cities and large conurbations. It will encourage further modal shift towards high-speed rail and foster greater integration between transport and other economic sectors. Whilst investment in the infrastructures components of PBKAL (Paris-Brussels-Köln-Amsterdam-London) provide a backbone to the train network in North-West Europe, most studies focus on the spatial effects (the impacts on the sphere of influence of each city node or connection point to the network) or the economic influence of HST to the regional economy. On the other hand, the HST Platform project will focus on more incremental aspects such as the ‘feedering’ of passenger traffic from other modes to high-speed rail, integrated ticketing systems, the reduction of short-haul air travel, the exploitation of tourist and cultural activities, the branding and marketing of the network and, ultimately, the needs of the traveller. This project embraces a clearly transnational issue and seeks to enhance the integration gains from existing investments.
