How to teach business?

PROJET
TERMINÉ
The Secondary School of Economics introduced Practice Firm as an elective school subject for the secondary education programme Economist in the school year 2001/2002. In the school year 2013/2014 Practice Firm became an obligatory subject in this programme, which resulted in an increased number of teachers who teach this subject and in an increased number of students who take this subject. Upon Croatia entering the European labour market the competences and skills required from the labour force have changed. Vocational education cannot change its programmes and curricula at the same pace at which the needs of the labour market are changing. Therefore, schools have to devise their own methods of modernizing the teaching process and the ways to design a new, fresh approach to work with students in Practice Firms in order to match their knowledge and skills with the needs of the contemporary labour market.
The Secondary School of Economics has contacted two other vocational secondary schools from Slavonia - Isidor Kršnjavi Secondary School from Našice and Braća Radić Secondary School of Economics from Đakovo, which are faced with similar challenges, in order to find a way for professional development of vocational staff. The aim of the mobility is to empower the capacities of teachers who conduct the teaching of vocational subjects in the programme Economist by offering them the first-hand experience of practical and interactive approach to vocational education which is being implemented in Ireland. Altogether 13 teachers from the school coordinating the project and from the partner schools will participate in the mobility which will be organized in January 2015.
Participants in the mobility will visit business schools, youth companies and business incubators. They will also have the opportunity to attend classes in schools, gain insight into the methods of teaching business content and its practical application, see the methods of market analysis and the way of introducing young people into the world of business.
A visit to the business incubator will show them examples of introducing young people into the business world and give them new ideas and methods for motivating our students. The visits to business schools, insights into the teaching of vocational subjects and educational outcomes and introduction of young people into the world of business will enable the participants to acquire new knowledge and skills which will be of great importance for presenting the needs of the European labour market to Croatian students and for preparing them to enter it and be competitive.
By empowering the teacher capacities the school capacities will be empowered as well, which will lead to better students’ achievement. The teachers will apply the newly acquired skills to prepare students for the contemporary European labour market upon completion of their secondary education. Encouragement and motivation may lead to the creation of new opportunities and business opportunities on the local, regional and national level.
