HORGANIC: HORticulture & GArdening learNIng spaCes
Date du début: 1 oct. 2012,

The HORGANIC project proposes an innovative training in the field of gardening and horticulture specifically designed for people suffering from mental illness. The aim of the project is to improve the skills and competences of this target group so they can increase their knowledge and thus their possibilities to obtain a job meanwhile they acquire/improve some frequently underestimated soft skills through an innovative methodology based on socio-drama techniques. The experienced consortium performing this project goes a step further the classical understanding of learning as a narrow process of acquiring technical knowledge; it does so by introducing an innovative simulation methodology for experiential learning and surrounding the participants by a green and friendly environment. This multifaceted training will contribute to increase the motivation of the target group to learn, their communication skills, their self-confidence and enhance their personal development.Concrete materials to be developed, produced and implemented in the framework of the project thus consist of an integral set of didactic tools for further application, even in different contexts. A teaching manual explaining each of the training modules in gardening will be developed and also a textbook for the learners in order to facilitate their progress during the classes. The partners will perform a complete website of the initiative and a teaching DVD. These tools will not only assist teachers with their pedagogic work, but also they will be useful to disseminate the project within an imaginative and close public communication strategy. HORGANIC aims to create a sustainable and fair environment where land, nature and people with special needs are treated with dignity, offering them equal opportunities to learn and show what they know to do, to facilitate a better economic and social development and, consequently, a better future for the whole society and contribution to social cohesion.
