HOPEurope: Building Citizenship, Democracy, Peace and Sustainability in a Multilevel United Europe / Speranza Europa: costruire cittadinanza, democrazia, pace e sostenibilità in un’Europa unita e multilivello
Date du début: 1 sept. 2013,

Without a truly European perspective on major social phenomena and contemporary challenges, an effective civic education is greatly hindered in the Italian school system. HOPEurope aims at tackling this problem in Liguria secondary schools, as a contribution to the national strategy toward an European Civic Education (ECE) policy and culture launched by the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies (SSSUP) in Tuscany. The project endorses an inclusive working method, building on a strong network partnership with local institutions and social actors. HOPEurope will focus on the EU actual and potential role to build peace, democracy and sustainability for European citizens and the world by way of its institutions and policies. The project offers innovative, interdisciplinary teaching and training methodologies through different activities: 1. Two-hour conferences "Europe's not the crisis but the hope", followed by debate, targeting 16-19 y.o. students in all Ligurian provinces. Conferences will take place in at least 30% of secondary schools, allowing for better tailoring to schools needs, easier interaction with students, tighter coordination with classroom activities. 2. HOPEurope events for Genoa secondary schools, in collaboration with the 9 Municipi (district areas), will directly involve students, teachers and civil society representatives to debate project's topics in a European perspective. 3. A special version of the European Awareness Day (EAD) format created by SSSUP for 16-19 y.o. students and teachers, open to the public, will tour the four provinces with a play on the ideal of European unity and a conference. 4. In each province, 2 cooperative workshops will gather teachers involved in EADs to analyse ECE needs and design specific initiatives. 5. ICT dissemination tools, a contest for students with educational prize, survey and final public Conference on European Citizenship will enhance the exploitation of project's results and activities.
