History Tellers - Walk with real stories

The Maison de l'Europe en Mayenne will prepare two volunteers who will then join during 10 months the team of the Student Union of the University of Madeira (AAUMa), which is a representative organisation aiming at representing the students of the University of Madeira and defending their interests. As a very touristic place with a rich and unique culture and history, the activities proposed to the volunteers aim at making discover to tourists the city of Funchal, the capital of Madeira. The project History Tellers - Walk with real stories aims at presenting the city of Funchal, its past and its present. Volunteers will tell the local people and visitors about the history of Funchal, streets and buildings. The mission will be led by the volunteers with local volunteers, students, former students and teachers of the University. Therefore, the people implied coming from different cultural environments, the intercultural learning will be assured. This project targets kids, youngsters, adults and elderly from Madeira or from anywhere in the world visiting the city and interested in a guided tour. There will also be a mission relative to helping young people at risk of social exclusion, in particular young people with learning disabilities. Indeed the volunteers will propose them social activities developed by AAUMa. Thanks to the dynamic and touristic aspects of the area, the volunteers will have all the tools to have a successful and enjoyable experience. Moreover, as the mission takes place in the University, the exchanges between young Europeans will be encouraged. The volunteers will be permanently in contact with new people so they will assure the promotion of the EVS and will act as ambassadors of the programme. During the project, the volunteers will acquire some experience which will be useful for their professional career. They will also develop new personal skills. These new skills and competences will be valorised and will help them integrate when they come back in France.
