Erasmus programme has been an integral part of the ITB’s internationalization and openness strategy since the institution’s inception in 2016. The ITB’s long-term plan mentions the programme in its chapter “Openness in the European and global area”, subchapter “Student and academician exchange among the educational and research institutions”. As in previous years, also in the academic year 2015/16 Erasmus+ programme was a dominant platform for student and staff exchange with partner institutions abroad.
Quantitative objectives of the grant agreement were fulfilled taking into account the total length of the mobility periods. Including the zero-grant mobility, in the academic year 2015/16, ITB had outbound student mobility in total length of 136 months and 11 extra days, while the grant agreement counted with 126 months of mobility. Students for traineeships spent 36 months and 4 extra days abroad as compared to 26 months planned in the grant agreement. Staff mobility for teaching assignment activity was allocated 36 days, in reality the number of days was 58. Sum of staff mobility for training mobility days was 42 as compared to 30 days in the grant agreement. Talking about the total number of outgoing participants, the ITB realized 58 mobilities in contrast to 60 mobilities planned in the grant agreement. Such difference was caused by longer average mobility period.
In the 2015/16 academic year, there were no applicants with special needs. One student received a top-up support due to her disadvantaged socio-economic background.
It is worth noting that number of incoming students exceeded the number of outgoing students. Growing interest in study period at the ITB demonstrates the good reputation of the institution among the partner universities and positive feedback of the former incoming students.
Participant reports of the Mobility Tool+ database demonstrate that the project correlates in a fundamental way with the educational aspects the ITB emphasizes. Students gained linguistic competencies, organizational skills, ability to cooperate in teams, increased their openness towards different approaches and commitment to the EU matters. Staff members had a possibility to reinforce the contact with the players in the labour market (this point is crucial for the ITB, focused on the employability of its graduates), they could expand their horizons in new learning practices and teaching methods and improved their practical skills relevant for their activities – it helped the staff members to increase their job satisfaction.
Longer-term benefits can be seen in regard to the points of the Modernisation agenda: Point 1 - Increasing attainment levels to provide the graduates and researchers Europe needs, point 2 - Improving the quality and relevance of higher education and point 3 - Strengthening quality through mobility and cross-border co-operation.
