Higher education student and staff mobility project

The University of Poitiers has a long tradition of international cooperation which is a major priority of its policy. Each year more than 4,000 international students from 136 different countries are enrolled at the University of Poitiers. Internationalization is necessary to increase the attractiveness of our training offer and our research labs. The internationalization strategy has been organized in five themes: - Targeted institutional partnerships based on mutual exchanges of students and staff; - Strengthening of inbound and outbound student mobility with recognition of studies to contribute to their employability; increase of teaching mobility with priority given to double degrees and structuring projects; increase of the mobility of administrative and technical staff in order to exchange good practices; - The International opening of the training offer with the development of double/joint degrees at Master and doctorate level (co-tutelles, co-supervision of thesis); - The internationalization of rResearch with hospitality-scheme for young researchers hosted in our research laboratories; - The language policy that emphasizes the importance of multilingualism and develops awareness of our partners' languages (international option at bachelor level, German/ Italian Campus) The commitment of the University of Poitiers in the Erasmus + program is part of this internationalization strategy. Erasmus + 2015 has provided an opportunity to update the bilateral institutional agreements and to keep only the most active one. We also took the opportunity to create partnerships with institutions located in hitherto underrepresented countries. Finally, the University renewed and signed 300 bilateral agreements. The number of mobilities has exceeded the objectives described in the project. 349 students received grants from Erasmus + program to to study in 121 partners universities. 76 people conducted teaching assignments (69) and training activities (8). These figures express an increase of mobilities and show the gradual internationalization of our degrees, some of them with a compulsory mobility window. There have been no significant changes in student mobility since the majority of mobile students is enrolled in Literature and Languages , Law and Social Sciences fields at Bachelor and Master levels. 46% of students participating in the Erasmus + program benefit from a grant based on social criteria. The new regulation of one mobility per study cycle didn't impact the number of participants. It has still not influenced the mobility of doctoral students. The places of destination remained traditional (Spain, Italy and the UK) but there is more openness to other countries of the EU (Eastern countries, Turkey) As for teachers, the priority given to assignments within the framework of double degrees has been maintained. The number of participants has remained stable (69) as well as the universities of destinations (Poland,Romania, Italy) which constitute 32% of achieved mobilities). Finally, the small number of training mobility grants has allowed the participation of 2 teachers and 2 administrative staff in Staff Training Weeks (main topics: career services, international relations) . 3 administrative staff have worked with their partners about the management of double degrees (academic affairs, international relations services) The major outcome of Erasmus+ implementation is a closer monitoring of students in all phases of mobility. An Erasmus + steering committee, composed of the Erasmus Institutional Coordinator +, representatives of faculties and the international relations office has been stablished. This committee , created one year ago, had met 3 times a year. The objective is to foster information sharing , to address the issues met with the implementation of the new program and to set up harmonized procedures. Erasmus + remains the main mobility program for students and staff The University commitments formalized in the Erasmus Charter are a guarantee of quality that makes the program succesful in the institution. Thanks to Erasmus+, mobility is regarded as an essential part of the curriculum followed by students (mobility windows) and as a major tool for the internationalization of our training offer and our services.
