Since 2001, L'Ecole de design Nantes Atlantique has been carrying out international exchanges in order to develop the linguistic, intercultural and professional skills of its students. A designer requires a global understanding of issues and uses, taking into consideration the importance of other identities and their differentiating character. A semester abroad is therefore compulsory for all students in Master 1 and takes place during the first semester, from September to February. The semester abroad can take 2 forms: - A study semester in one of our 80 partner schools, including some of the best design schools in the world. - An internship in a design agency or company. In 2015-2016, 43% of the total number of international mobilities were carried out within the framework of the Erasmus + programme, of which 43% of these students spent a semester in one of our partner schools and 57 % in a design agency or company. We also encourage international mobility within our team of teachers and staff via : - international research publications and papers. - accompanying students on short mobility periods (for visits or international competitions) - participation in international organisations, conferences, events or fairs to promote design education, design excellence and the role of design in the emergence of sustainable solutions for our societies (within the framework of the CUMULUS association for example) - promotion of the school (prospective visits, exhibitions of students work) - observation periods in partner schools to exchange good practices. - teacher exchanges. This program involves the teachers, international relations staff, course leaders and the management team. In addition to outgoing exchanges, L'Ecole de design welcomes approximately 60 international exchange students per year. We are convinced that welcoming international students from other design training programs is a source of mutual advancement that improves both the quality of our teaching and the know-how of our graduates. In 2002 we created an "international class", which is a specific program aimed at French and international students taught entirely in English. Half of our Master programs are also taught in English. This project has allowed us to consolidate the internationalisation of our courses and our capacity to welcome and support international students. Indeed the international strategy of our institution aims to open its curriculum to international students in order to reach the target of 25 % of international graduates by 2020. The project has also allowed us to enrich our own curriculum by comparing it to the best practices internationally and deepen our academic cooperation with international partners beyond the exchange programme.
