Higher education student and staff mobility project
Date du début: 1 juin 2014, Date de fin: 31 mai 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The University of Mannheim’s goal is to shape future executives in business, society and science. Knowing about the growing challenges of an international science and job market and the high value of international competetiveness the University of Mannheim aims to provide each member within his field of activity (sudies, teaching, research, administration) with an international perspective. During the Erasmus-project 2014 (i.e. during the academic year 2014/15) the Erasmus+ program was successfully impletmented at the University of Mannheim like the ERASMUS-LLP-program was before thus remaining a cornerstone. With a total of 669 student mobilities the number of the previous year was exceeded by 45 persons, which ist he result of the continued effort of all faculties and the AAA to improve the possibilities of integration of academic stays abroad during their studies. The network of partners consists of over 200 universities in Europe and is under constant review and expansion. Generally the establishment of a new partnership happens on the basis of academic quality criteria, compatability of the curriculum, the linguistic fit as well as the expected quality of supervision of incoming students at the foreign institution. Even if there is no country or region specific accentuation as a strategic goal it is still quite pleasing that the number of partnerships with a country especially favored by students, namely Great Britain, was increased despite the difficult situation for british universities at the moment. Therefore France and Great Britain are the two most important host countries for the University of Mannheim’s mobilities in Europe and internationally. In the area of staff mobility (12 STA mobilties and 7 STT mobilities) the numbers show a stable interest in the program, which will hopefully be increased through info events involving former mobility staff. All proven measures which the University of Mannheim implemented back during the LLP-program to announce the program were continued during the Erasmus+-program and, if possible, developed. Especially the close cooperation of the AAA and the Erasmus-coordinators located at the individual faculties is still a reliable pratice to ensure and improve the high standart of Erasmus mobilities at the University of Mannheim under quantaty as well as quality aspects. Exchange programs are always based on mutual responsibilities which is why the University of Mannheim regards ist as self-evident to support incoming students and staff in the best manner possible. While the Welcome Center of the University of Mannheim provides an outstanding contact point for all questions regarding mobile science, the supervison of imcoming and outgoing students is ensured on the administrative side through the AAA and on the academic side through the Erasmus-coordinators of each faculty. Destinct responsibilities generally lead to individual solutions to the sudents‘ questions. The international partners give important input for research, teaching and the strategic orientation of the university. Visiting scientists provide international research perspectives as well as new teaching content and methods as visiting professors. The contact between universities leads to a conversation about international standarts of quality and gives incentives to improve teaching methods, research and university management. In the area of teaching the ERASMUS-program is cerntainly the most important cornerstone.
