Bingol University was established as a new force to contribute to the higher education in Turkey, as decreed by Article 5662, enacted after its publication in the Official Gazette on 29.05.2007. The university offers all levels of degrees: two-year professional degree, undergraduate (B.A.) as well as graduate degrees (M.A. and PhD). Evidently, the university has been trying to be one of the most dynamic, advanced and successful educational institutions in Turkey. Bingöl University is a city university located in the upper F?rat District. It has seven Faculties (Arts and Sciences, Economics and Administrative Sciences, Theology, Engineering and Architecture, Veterinary Sciences, Agriculture, Dentistry). It has three Postgraduate Institutes (Institute of Social Sciences and Institute of Science, Institute of Health and Institute Living Sciences) and five Vocational Schools (Genç Vocational School, Vocational School of Health Services, Solhan Vocational School of Health Services, Vocational School of Social Sciences, and Vocational School of Technical Sciences). The university has 5118 students at 1st cycle, 7449 students at 2nd cycle and 817 students at third cycle. It has 13 international students at 1st cycle and 321 international students at 3rd cycle. The university has 502 academic staffs and 287 administrative staffs. International activities are largely facilitated by the European and International Relations Office: There are more than 32 Erasmus partners in Europe and several partnerships with universities in Albania, Russia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Sudan, Colombia and some universities in Asia. The strategy plan of the university emphasizes international sharing?s and exchanges. That?s why; the university is trying to promote internalization through the international relations office. The university?s Internalization Strategy and its Learning &Teaching Strategy aim to promote long term and sustainable networks and partnerships with universities and other organizations in research, teaching and enterprises for mutual benefits. While determining the medium and long term objectives measurable and consistent dimensions are taken into consideration. The board of the university regards mobility programs because it enables the opportunity to observe the academic environments and get experiences. So far, 61 students have benefitted from Erasmus student mobility program and 24 staff mobility has occurred. One academic staff has visited our university and 2 students have come to our university for one semester within Erasmus student mobility. The key objective is to increase the mobility of out going students; while continuing to maintain the number of incoming students. The Erasmus strategy is student centered and mostly first cycle students are considered. Within Erasmus mobility the students get the opportunity to be educated in European countries for at least one semester. While doing agreements with higher education institutions and other organizations the maximum utility is considered. The academic backgrounds of the partners, the current academic studies, physical environments of the partners, application areas and etc. are regarded. Additionally, diversity of countries and compliances of the courses are considered. The university cares for the development of sustainable relationships; therefore, it is trying to build up long-term relationships with outstanding and advanced institutions. As the university is newly founded, it aims that %8 of the students & staffs benefit from European programs and %7 of them from non European programs. The university is located in an undeveloped city of Turkey; therefore, the exchange programs are opportunities for the improvement of the education quality and internalization of the university.
