PROJET
TERMINÉ
As part of this project, our goal was to increase students' mobility and develop trainers' mobility compared to what existed previously. This meets the expectations of Erasmus Programme.
With the grant from 2014, 8 third year nursing students from our nursing institute were able to go on Erasmus internships during their last semester of studies:
- 3 students spent 3 months in Lithuania in Kaunas (Kauno kolegia University of Applied Sciences)
- 1 student spent three months in Italy in Pavia and 2 stayed for 2 months (University degli Studi di Pavia)
- 2 students spent 3 months in Belgium in Brussels (Vives University in Kortrijk).
The students were all received very well by our partners; the training experiences were very interesting and the choices suggested to the students were all consistent: medical, surgery, operating theatre, pediatrics, emergency, intensive care. The students performed in either 2 or 3 wards depending on the duration of their stay.
The internships were very rich in terms of:
- Discovery of other professional practices (other techniques, the family in patient's care, patient-provider relationship ...)
- Other managerial practices (the role of mentors which is different from France, university professors and how they collaborate with the hospital)
- Development of coping skills for patients and the environment (different health conditions).
- Acquisition and mastery of English / Italian, but also the development of non-verbal communication. A linguistics platform has been of help to those who have benefited.
- Visit of a simulation lab in Belgium.
The cultural aspect was also a highlight of their stay, the students discovered:
in Lithuania:
- The country's history, links with Russia, the experiences of people and their difficulties in talking about years spent under the Soviet regime.
- The colder climate than that of France
- The richer and more consistent food, often with potato-based meals, traditional dishes
- The place of religion within the country.
- The organization of the wellcoming of Erasmus students (sponsorship, accommodation on campus ...)
- The discovery of other countries: Poland, Sweden, Estonia thanks to the Erasmus Network (ESN).
- Meeting with other Erasmus students (campus life, proposed outputs)
In Italy :
- History, links with France, monuments, historic sites
- The area and surrounding cities
- Students met several times with the Erasmus student from Pavia, whom we welcomed some months ago in the IFSI Vinatier.
In Belgium :
- The different Belgian communities (Wallonia, Flanders and Brussels)
- The region, cities
- Neighboring countries
Students have stayed in contact with people they met (young and old). Some still remain in contact with them.
After the internships, the students shared their experiences with all their institution's colleagues and IFSI's nurse educators.
In addition to the trips made by the students, 3 nurse educators were able to visit Lithuania, Italy and Finland.
We did not know these partners before, so it was important to meet them.
This allowed us to:
- Strengthen partnerships begun earlier
- Develop partnerships in nursing departments of universities:
- Exchange with them information about the curriculum of our respective students (theoretical teaching, internships, dissertations)
- Visit educational sites (simulation labs, practice rooms, classrooms ...)
- Visit hospitals: We visited different surgical and medical wards and a consultation centre in Lithuania. We were welcomed by the hospitals' managers, mentors and nurses. We were able to discuss the organization of their institutions with them.
We also welcomed four incoming students from Italy, Germany and Belgium (2 students).
These students have done internships of different durations.
Their arrival and adaptation were facilitated by the students of our IFSI who welcomed them and offered them activities throughout their stay, including students with the Erasmus project. The international relationship responsible for the IFSI assured their welcome and the link with the ward which welcomed them.
A Belgian nurse educator travelled to our institute in order to discover the French way of caring, meet her Erasmus students at the hospital, meet the care teams and also the nurse educators of the IFSI.
We held lively exchanges on various care practices between one country and another among incoming students, some of our students and trainers of the IFSI.
We communicated on the project (at meetings, on our website ...) and it contributes to the attractiveness of the IFSI. The partnerships thus built upon are ongoing.
