In the previous academic years, the University of Nicosia was faced with a great challenge. Unfortunately, the students? motivation to participate in the Erasmus+ project was low, for various cultural and personal reasons. Therefore, the Erasmus Office, had to deal with the low motivation on behalf of students and revert the negative pre-conceived notions that several students shared.
Project Objectives:
Therefore, as the main objective for the Erasmus Office of the University of Nicosia was to increase the awareness of the student body regarding the Erasmus+ project. In turn, the Erasmus Office also aimed at increasing the number of applications of students interested in participating in the project. Additionally, the third objective was to increase the number of mobilities which would take place for the duration of the project in relation to the mobilities which took place over the previous academic year. Furthermore, the Erasmus Office had also set some internal goals for the improvement of the project?s implementation. Those include improving the support mechanisms at UNic for outgoing students/staff and improving its internal communication policies. Concluding, UNic also aimed at increasing its number of bilateral agreements, establishing internal synergies in order to promote traineeships, establishing bilateral agreements with enterprises and strengthening its dissemination strategy.
Number and type/profile of participants:
There is not a single profile of the Erasmus student at the University of Nicosia, but there are several profiles, and some cases in conflict with each other. Our promotional campaign was focused on the acknowledgement that Erasmus students are not a homogeneous group of individuals, who share the same identity and culture. The fact that we recognized the diversity that exists among our students, was one of the elements that contributed in a very successful promotion campaign on behalf of UNic.
The above-mentioned objectives were successfully met, since numbers of actual mobilities were more than doubled, in comparison to the previous academic year:

Description of undertaken activities:
One of the main activities undertaken by UNic was the Awareness Raising Campaign. The objective of the campaign was to account for the diversity of types of interested students. The campaign also included promotion of the project via various forms of social media and creating a database with students? experiences which were used to promote the project. Finally, information booths were placed in both Cafeterias of UNic giving students the opportunity to raise questions regarding the Erasmus program. In addition, members of the Erasmus office, in collaboration with Faculty members, visited more than 25 lectures with large audiences and presented in class the funding opportunities of Erasmus as well as information about procedures and deadlines. Additionally, the Erasmus Info session aimed at informing students regarding the opportunities offered by the project as well as, to allow previous participants to express their opinions regarding the project.
Results and impact attained
The results of the awareness raising campaign and of the other activities followed by the Erasmus office were significant since the initial quantitate objectives of the project were met. The number of applications received by students, graduates, faculty and staff was doubled. The number of mobilities implemented during 2014-2015 were 89, in comparison to 52 mobilities for the year 2013-2014.
Longer-term benefits
The awareness raising campaign was one that did not only have an effect on the academic year of 2014-2015 but will continue to have an effect on the University of Nicosia. Due to the campaign many students have applied to participate in the Erasmus+ programme for the 2015-2016 academic year. While a momentum of interest was created in the University since students have been informed about all the opportunities offered by the Erasmus+ programme and have informed their friends and classmates, who were not exposed to the campaign itself but were still affected by it. Additionally, many faculty members have been informed about the opportunities and chose to share them with their students or ask for a small in class presentation by members of the Erasmus office who can give students all the necessary information. Finally, dissemination of results and promotion of the project have become regular practices of the Erasmus Office. Concluding, the activities implemented during the project were not only beneficial to the University for the duration of the project but also resulted in long term benefits for the University and its students and staff.
