Higher education student and staff mobility project

Context and background to the project: El Palmeral Secondary and Vocational Education and Training School goes for European Mobility as a mayor priority over its Schooling Program, both for students and staff. Europe is considered as an essential part in our students? education providing not only a comprehensive education but also labour market opportunities. Every year our students take employment practice living an invaluable experience in an European country. Those lucky ones who enjoy such a great experience come back both qualified by two European institutions and handing out a business card which may raise many opportunities in their careers, either in Spain or any other European country. Our institution struggles for summing efforts together with other European schools and companies to offer mobility. Our selection is based on suitability tests on their conditions; involvement in our student?s training along with the interest they show in European Programs. We do no set a limit to mobility, any company or institution all over Europe is a potential candidate. Every year we search thoroughly for new members. For the time being one of our students is getting trained in Poland. Our main goals: Our aims as regards mobility for students and staff are specific:? 1. - To promote European spirit and culture as a milestone in the process of education? 2. - To encourage European lifelong learning as the right tool for business integration and mobility.? 3. - To stimulate the acquisition of languages as an essential factor in European merging .? 4. - To guarantee quality mobilities that fulfill Erasmus program, acting as guarantors for other members in accordance with the aim of training program.? 5. - To consider Europe as a business and training wining bet. The knowledge and involvement in different school systems brings an invaluable personal benefit that produces a decisive effect upon student?s academic and labour development.? 6.- To create an European classroom for students and teachers promoting European dimension in learning; combining European common cooperation academic principles.? Number, profile of participants and activities carried out: Our project has consisted in two SMT and one staff mobility for training (STT). One of our students, a Higher Technician in Forest and Natural Environment Management went to Zakopane (Poland) in the TATRA Natural Park. The other one, a Higher Technician in Telecommunications and Computer Systems went Cork. Both of them with the goal of undertaking their practice period (FCT) in order to finish their quilifications. Our English teacher, has done a job shadowing in Landrkrona (Sweden) in an equivalent institution, the Allvar Gullstrandgymnasiet. The main objectives of this mobility has been linguistic updating, peer learning and observation of new methodological techniques applicable in the classroom. The three participants have successfully achieved the objectives of mobility and learning agreements, in compliance with the principles of the Erasmus Charter. Related to the project impact, results and long-term benefits have been: 1.- To Improve our students? English competence which will allow them to develop their professional skills in an effective way in a foreign language. 2.- To Increase their chances of employment and a good work transition, not only in Spain but in any country in Europe. 3.- To Encourage not only a European dimension and foster the European spirit and but also, the exercise of an active European citizenship. 4.- Ensure lifelong learning of our staff through methodological and pedagogical updating, in order to provide higher quality education and create an European spirit in the classroom. 5.- Promote the European dimension in education and develop programs to meet the needs of our students and staff.
