Higher education student and staff mobility project
Date du début: 1 juin 2014, Date de fin: 30 sept. 2015 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The Project sees the University of Padova working together with more than 400 Higher Education Institutions in 30 Programme Countries. The network of partners covers all the study fields and ranges from long-experienced HEIs involved in the framework of programmes for European mobility since 1989, to institutions located in those countries which have only recently become EU members. This allows to offer our outgoing participants a wide variety of opportunities and, on the other side, to diversify our student population and create an international study environment. By taking part in the Project, our University aims to enrich its linguistic, cultural and educational environment and to improve participants’ competences and skills as well as to increase their employability opportunities. Moreover, it provides teachers and staff with chances for personal and professional growth. As a result of the effort invested in improving the overall organisation of mobility flows and in promoting exchange opportunities, participation has been above any prediction and exceeded the figures set forth in the Grant Agreement. Except for the Staff Mobility for Training (9 participants), in 2014/15 all the other categories led to more mobility flows then foreseen: 1.309 students, 154 trainees and 65 teachers. The migration from LLP Erasmus to Erasmus + led to streamline the cooperation with partner institutions: after a thorough analysis of all the existing agreements, only the 1.546 which were considered effective were renewed, while 94 new ones were sealed. Destinations were also reorganised and now address specific degree courses in order to facilitate the recognition process, in accordance with the organisation of many receiving institutions. One of the major priorities has been to provide participants with complete and clear information at any step of their mobility periods, mainly through our institutional website, where the calls for applications as long as all the information for applicants and participants are published. Students have access to an updated course catalogue in English and are provided with the necessary information to prepare their stay at our university. The International Relations Office organises specific events in order to provide guidance to outbound students (info-days and seminars) and to help inbound students to integrate into their new socio-cultural environment (Welcome Days are scheduled at the beginning of each semester). Participants were supported during all the stages and in all aspects of their mobility periods by each of the relevant offices involved: educational guidance to prepare the L.A. and obtain the recognition of the study/training activities were provided by the teachers responsible for each mobility flow and by the administrative offices in charge of degree courses; support on practical issues (such as accommodation, residence permit, insurance, enrolment, etc.) were assured by the several offices involved, such as: the International Relations Office, the Career Service, the SASSA Accommodation Service, the SAOS – Foreign guests welcoming service, the Students’ Office, etc. Full recognition for satisfactorily completed activities, always based on a prior agreement, was ensured to outgoing participants and those were included in the final records of students’ achievements. The Diploma Supplement is available for every student and lists the activities carried out during the mobility period, even when they are not counting for the degree. All incoming students received a transcript of records or a traineeship certificate at the end of their mobility. Our outbound students obtained on average 29,15 ECTS during their mobility periods, a result which is very close to the goal of 30 ECTS per semester. This can also be attributed to the streamlining of the recognition process, which led to a revision of the internal rules in Padova. Erasmus+ and international mobility in general involves many different offices inside and outside the university and allowed to create an experienced and well-organised synergy among them. This cooperation resulted in a general improvement of their services while many new administrative tools have been elaborated. For example: the online Learning Agreement became compulsory in all Schools/Departments after a testing stage; the new recognition method also assigns credits for thesis work, which was not possible before. The experience abroad allowed participants to develop several personal competences, such as: adapting to new environments and different education methods, growing self-knowledge, acquiring new academic skills and working in an intercultural context. According to the meaningful results of the surveys, the Erasmus experience is usually described as very positive by beneficiaries. The added value of teachers and staff mobility was the strengthening of existing international cooperation or the establishment of new academic relations.
