Education, and in particular higher education and its links with research and innovation, plays a crucial role in individual and societal advancement, and in providing the highly skilled human capital and the articulate citizens that Europe (and World) needs to create jobs, economic growth and prosperity. Mobility is the cornerstone of internationalization and modernization of education and the main tool for the future development of the Estonian and EU higher education area. The mission of the College is to prepare innovatively and critically thinking health professionals. The fulfillment of this mission requires the students, teachers and staff, who are internationally competitive and prepared for free movement of employees; ready to serve the society following ethical principles of the profession; ready for lifelong learning and professional development; able to work in multicultural teams and different cultural environments. With the aim to reach the above-mentioned goals, the College develops cooperation with partners from EU (and non-EU countries) as stipulated in the College strategy for internationalization; and promotes and supports student, teacher and staff mobility, following non-discrimination policy. Cooperation and mobility are central to the international strategy as they guide institutional actions in teaching, research and outreach to the global community. Mobility, networking and international cooperation in different forms are core components of College's general institutional policy, development-, strategic- and action plans.
The overall aim of the Erasmus+ mobility project was to promote cooperation between higher education institutions and build strategic partnerships; facilitate exchange of knowledge and best practices; raise the level of professional skills and competence of teachers thus raising the international competitiveness of participating institutions. International mobility helps students, teachers and staff members to increase their professional, social and inter-cultural skills and employability.
Erasmus+ programme provides a unique opportunity for students to live and study or practice abroad. International experience gives them valuable skills and experiences that help them develop not only professionally, but also personally. Erasmus+ experience helps to improve students´ language skills, supports their professional and personal development and enhances their life skills. Students can build an international network of friends that will be a cornerstone of their future professional network. Feedback from students has confirmed that international experience is highly valued by employers and students with international experience can find job much easier than the others.
Teaching and/or training in a foreign institution improve the professional competencies of teachers and staff members. Possibility to share their knowledge and best practices with colleagues from other countries gives them broader understanding of practices, policies and systems in education across countries. All this helps to improve the teachers´ professional and foreign language competencies and the quality of teaching, providing increased opportunities for professional and career development.
The project objective was higher education student and staff mobility between Programme countries:
- 33 students to traineeship to Programme Countries;
- 25 students to study to Programme Countries
- 21 teachers to teach to Programme Countries;
- 8 teachers or staff members to study to Programme Countries.
The project can be considered successful, as both quantitative and qualitative objectives of the project, as described in the grant agreement and the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education, were met. Satisfaction of participants with their mobility experience was really high: 100% of outbound and inbound teachers and 100% of inbound students and 93,10% of outbound students were satisfied with their mobility experience.
Erasmus+ programme has helped the College significantly expand its international dimension and increase its international visibility, thus raising the international competitiveness of the College.
