Higher education student and staff mobility project

The new Erasmus Plus programme for the 2014-2020 period, framed in the Europe 2020 strategy, has been approved by the European Commission thus being the main source of mobility and interaction between the UPCT and other universities and institutions or companies, as well as a source of promotion of the idea of a common European identity. The Erasmus Charter for Higher Education 2014-2020 allows to move forward in the policy of internationalisation collected in the Statutes, which include among their competencies and priorities that "for the better development of its functions, the Technical University of Cartagena will bring about its external projection through the establishment of relations with other universities, organisations, companies and institutions at a regional, national and international level and in particular with those of an academic, scientific and cultural nature within the framework of the European Higher Education Area ". The Seal Campus Mare Nostrum 37 /38 was awarded to the Campus of International Excellence of the University of Murcia and to the Technical University of Cartagena, which together with research centres, public administrations, international organisations, technology parks and companies are turning the region of Murcia into a focus of educational, scientific, productive and cultural excellence. It has also enabled the development of actions and strategies for the participation in quality projects and partnerships. The internationalisation of universities must be a cross-sectional process and it is the objective of the UPCT to analyse the strengths and weaknesses enabling it to continue developing the executive plan to position itself on the international scene with an attractive and competitive offer. Internationalisation and quality, both in teaching and in research in and outside Europe, are among the strategic objectives of our university. The Vice-Rectorate for Internationalisation and Cooperation through the International Office provides the necessary support and advice to the members of the university community. In addition, it is in charge of the coordination with other bodies and services of the university involved in the management of mobility. The UPCT has set new objectives intended to adapt the areas of knowledge to training opportunities in regard to individual mobility and thus to seek partners that meet the quality requirements necessary to sign new bilateral agreements. The priority action group for mobility is still students, including graduates, enrolled in any of the cycles in which their teachings are structured, since the Erasmus period can be considered as a wonderful opportunity to improve their skills and employability. Favouring the mobility of both teaching and non-teaching personnel is also a goal, as it is an essential tool of integration in the process of all the administrative areas of the UPCT. 231 graduate and master students participated in this project in the course of their studies, and 44 did it through internships abroad. In addition, 9 members of staff had a teaching and training stay at 87 partner universities and institutions of 24 countries. As a result of the international positioning achieved, the UPCT participates in networks, projects and other educational, research and innovation programmes, after adapting and making its academic offer more flexible, derived mostly from the excellent relationship with consolidated partners. The UPCT continues with its will to increase and expand the existing double degree agreements provided quality of the same is ensured. The UPCT also puts forward the improvement of efficiency and effectiveness of the procedures for the recognition of study periods and degrees, both in the EHEA and in third countries. Proposals for improvement include reinforcing the plan established in terms of linguistic certifications of both UPCT staff and students, and the implementation of bilingual degrees (Spanish-English) which offer the students the possibility to get a qualification in two languages. The organizational structure of the International Office at the UPCT has been expanded so as to manage the increase in mobility and in the demand for language courses offered by the Language Centre, which are linked to Erasmus+ requirements. This has resulted in the need to integrate the same in a new common physical space, which are now dependent on the same Vice-Rectorate.
