Higher education student and staff mobility project
Date du début: 1 juin 2014,
Date de fin: 30 sept. 2015
PROJET
TERMINÉ
Objectives:
The most important objectives of our mobility activities are an extension of our main strategic aims. We aim to recruit the most outstanding aspiring young musicians, actors and theatre technicians from around the world. The investment priorities set out in the School?s Strategic Plan: Planning for Peak Performance (2012 revision) also support staff mobility (in addition to Erasmus) to allow staff to conduct masterclasses around the world, ensuring that the School is promoted globally to the fullest extent, particularly to potential overseas students interested in first and second cycle study.
Number and type/profile of participants:
- 3 (outgoing) student mobility for studies participants
- 17 (incoming) student mobility for studies participants
- 3 staff mobility for teaching participants
- 2 staff mobility for training participants.
Description of undertaken activities:
Outgoing students received orchestral training and individual instrument lessons in Amsterdam and Malmö.
Outgoing staff undertook the following activities:
- flagship event for the Historical Performance department in Poznan: a workshop and performance; sharing the latest research findings and pedagogical/rehearsal methodologies for early opera, baroque gesture etc.
- chamber music coaching sessions, which were integrated into the programme of the International Student Chamber Music Festival of Baltic States
- masterclass; developing the stylistic and technical skills of a group of students from around Poland and broadening the international reputation of the Guildhall School
- intensive mask workshop; providing insight into the relationship between the mask and the actor?s body or a text.
Results and impact attained:
The project has a positive effect on recruitment: 8 of the incoming students (nearly half) went on to apply to join the Guildhall School as a degree student in 2015/16 and we now have 4 students currently enrolled on our Guildhall Artist Masters programme. Another student extended her stay at the Guildhall as an Extramural student within the 2014/15 academic year. Incoming students reported a very high level of satisfaction with their mobilities in our internal departure survey.
All outgoing students reported that they gained knowledge and skills during their mobility that they would not have gained otherwise. Two students have been in touch to confirm that they plan to study abroad for their postgraduate studies as the mobility gave them the confidence to live and study in another country. The students have taken part in information sessions for prospective 2016/17 Erasmus applicants to share their experiences and advice.
All staff (teaching and training) reported that they were satisfied with their mobility experience in general and would recommend Erasmus to a colleague. The professional networks and new contacts created have had a positive impact on the departments but we are still receiving applications for 2016/17, so are as yet unsure of the direct impact on recruitment.
