PROJET
TERMINÉ
Middlesex University, London UK has successfully completed the KA1 project for 2014/15 in the first year of the new Erasmus+ programme. Our university has complied with the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education which is in line with our university's overall vision, mission and international strategy - to become a leading university of choice, recognised internationally for excellence in all that we do.
The quality of our project was maintained through the protocols established at Middlesex over many years of participation in Socrates and Erasmus LLP projects. Our standard procedures for academic mobility are in compliance with the UK QAA's quality code for HE (chapter B10).
We have steadily increased the number of our outbound participants for both students and staff and we have also been able to maintain reciprocity in numbers for our inbound Erasmus students. This is the first year that we have increased our Erasmus+ Student Traineeships from 17 in 2013/14 to 65 in 2014/15. In order to meet our university-wide target to enhance student experience and employability skills, we launched a week-long promotional event, 'Go Further, Go abroad' week at our university encouraging students at all levels, first, 2nd and 3rd cycle across all 6 schools to avail the opportunity of Erasmus+ funded placements in Europe. With the support from our Employability team, we provided Erasmus grant to 65 students for Traineeships including a significant number of graduates. Nearly 50% of our outbound Erasmus students (study and work placements) are from a widening participation background.
Furthermore, we initiated more visibility of Erasmus+ programme at our university for both staff and students through programme/level specific workshops, induction talks, one-to-one appointments. Externally, we were invited by the UK Erasmus+National Agency to showcase our University's Erasmus+ programme activities at the annual conference.
Since the implementation of the 'student exchange peer mentoring programme' in 2013/14, a consistently increasing number of current incoming and former exchange Middlesex students have volunteered to receive training in order to guide and support prospective outbound Middlesex exchange students (2-4 mentees per mentor) in their preparation for their study or work placement period abroad. Middlesex offers this training during one of 3 separate workshops during the academic year in June, September and November. Our Erasmus students' participation in our mentoring programme reflects that the university values and recognizes their exchange study experience.
This is also the first year where 10 students from our university are selected by UK Erasmus+ National Agency, as UK Erasmus+ Ambassadors (most of them are our trained mentors). They are actively participating in our internal and external promotional events.
We aim to focus on the increased participation of our postgraduate students (2nd and 3rd cycle) in the next academic year for them to be able to do research study/Traineeship visit through Erasmus+ to meet the 20% mobility target for HEIs by 2020.
Staff mobility continues to be a priority. Through a process of biannual calls, every staff member is made aware of the programme and may apply.
