Higher education student and staff mobility project
Date du début: 1 juin 2014,
Date de fin: 30 sept. 2015
PROJET
TERMINÉ
The Project funded was an Erasmus+ Key Action 1 Learning Mobility of Individuals running between 01/06/2015 and 30/09/2016. Its aim was to provide the framework and support in order to enable the mobility of students and staff to and from our various partner institutions and host organisations, supporting our institutional ambitions to provide opportunities for Reading staff and students to gain the values, skills and experience for living and working in a globalised world. Our participation followed on from our active engagement in the Lifelong Learning Programme and was aimed to support the University of Reading?s Internationalisation (now superseded by a new Global Engagement Strategy), European and Teaching & Learning Strategies.
The activities undertaken were:
- Supporting outward student mobility at Undergraduate (First cycle) and Taught postgraduate (Second cycle) for Reading students registered onto degrees at the University. This incorporated both study and training placements at European host organisations within 13 different countries from eleven different Reading departments / disciplines which have opportunities to study / work in Europe (11 of 18 subject areas).
- Supporting outgoing staff mobilities for both academics and professional / administrative service staff, to undertake either teaching or training activities at European host organisations. This included colleagues from 7 different nationalities, undertaking placements in 13 different countries.
- Hosting students and staff from partner institutions at the University of Reading as part of our bilateral institutional arrangements into 18 different subject areas.
The mobilities have assisted the University to engage more fully with other European institutions helping us in our institutional aim to attempt to forge longstanding sustainable partnerships that will continue to offer quality experiences for our students and staff, and opportunities for wider academic cooperation. It has enabled students and staff to experience different academic and educational cultures, experience different learning styles or working environments, develop and augment language and intercultural skills, as well as to gain life-skills and competencies that direct benefit the institution and the individuals.
There are immediate and longer lasting benefits for the University. Feedback mechanisms indicate that students have been enthused by their experiences and have returned with increased confidence and understanding of themselves and their subjects. Staff have had the opportunity to engage with colleagues at European organisations, which through the reporting system and one-to-one discussions appear to have helped enhance the depth and breadth of their (and therefore the University?s) European and global outreach and networks. Through active participation and dialogue with existing partners we have been able to develop nascent multi-layered partnerships with five key European institutions which will deliver opportunities for student and staff mobility cooperation over a range of disciplines and activities, both within and external to the Erasmus+ programme.
