Higher education student and staff mobility project

TERMINÉ
The project was established to continue the strategic aim of Bournemouth University (BU) to provide financial support and opportunities for students and staff to gain international experiences abroad through study exchange or traineeships as part of their degree programme, in order to gain a global perspective, develop intercultural skills and significantly enhance their employability (in the case of students) or career development (in the case of staff). The University Strategy BU 2018 - Vision & Values clearly indicates student and staff mobility as a priority for the University and the Erasmus+ funding received is essential to support this objective. The project supported 26 students to go abroad and undertake work placements as part of their studies, 18 students to go abroad on study exchange, and 9 staff to go abroad on teaching exchange.
In terms of impact, one student undertook an internship with an organisation linked to the Youth Olympic Games in Norway. He creatively designed innovative ways to celebrate the Torch Tour/Relay in the build-up to the opening ceremony, and pitched many ideas that were specific to each of the individuals selected to represent their country as the torch travelled around Norway. The direct impact on a major international sporting event from a BU student's work placement provides a vivid example of the benefit of the mobility experience funded by Erasmus+ on both the student in terms of his professional development and experience, and on the local and international sports industry.
The University launched its Global Engagement Plan in September 2015 which provides an architecture for the six key elements of Global Engagement, namely partnerships, mobility, student recruitment, research, education and professional practice. In terms of enhancements for 2015/16 and beyond, the Academic Partnerships team is currently working on a staff toolkit for mobility to provide information for new colleagues at the University, and to support existing staff members in advising students and promoting all the opportunities for mobility at BU.
