The aim of the University within the ERASMUS+ programme is to ensure an increasing number of mobility of students, teachers as well as other employees in order to meet the quality requirements of participating institutions in relation to specific technical focus of the University, its faculties and other parts of the organisation. TUZVO participates in Erasmus+ programme following the Charter for Higher Education in accordance with the institutional strategy of the organisation and the implementation of international cooperative projects associated with teaching-learning process and trainings publicized on the webpage of the University. Erasmus+ programme activities in the area of student and staff mobility – KA103 Mobility of Individuals, have an irreplaceable role in carrying out the Long-term Scheme of the TUZVO in the sphere of internationalisation activity.
Student and staff mobility are carried out at the foreign universities on the basis of cooperation resulting from bilateral contracts within the ERASMUS+ programme. In total, 64 contracts with universities in 21 European countries were valid in the year 2015. Bilateral contracts are signed by institutions focused on similar issues. Moreover, further cooperation can result in study programmes dealing with essential areas being provided by the universities. In term of number of mobility carried out within the ERASMUS+ programme the most important partners of the TUZVO were as follows: Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, Technical University of Ostrava, University of Ljubljana, Karelia University of Applied Sciences, Finland, University of Applied Sciences, Technology, Business and Design in Wismar.
It is evident that Erasmus+ programme at the TUZVO follows the LLP programme ERASMUS successfully. The increasing effort to inform students and staff about chances offered by mobility carried out within the ERASMUS+ programme results in an increasing interest of students, graduates, teachers and other employees. Student and staff mobility can provide the opportunity for enhancing knowledge and subsequent transfer of knowledge and information in the sphere of education, science and research. Growing trend of ERASMUS + participants accepted as well as sent out by the TUZVO mirrors a significant growth of allocated financial resources by the European Commission through Slovak Academic Association for International Cooperation. 47 student mobility for studies, 29 student internships (15 internships of graduates) in enterprises in 12 countries of the EU, 21 teacher and 17 staff mobilities in 8 countries of the EU were carried out in the academic year 2014-15. 3 foreign students from Finland and Belgium and 23 foreign teachers from 6 countries of the EU were accepted by the University within the ERASMUS+ programme.
A significant progress can be mentioned as well. Whereas, in the past, mobility was aimed especially at improving language skills, nowadays students have a clear idea of their study abroad. Department for the International Relations of The Technical University organised ERASMUS Information Days for students in order to inform students about opportunities provided by the ERASMUS+ programme. Since the year 2010, basic mobility requirements and rules associated with credits awarded, with respect to the system of study at the TUZVO, have been defined.
In comparison to the previous time, the basic rules governing the student as well as staff mobility have not been changed. Reducing the minimum length of student internships to two months along with the chance of graduates to carry out this type of mobility doubled the number of students participating in internships. An example of successful cooperation can be considered the fact that two graduates of the TUZVO were hired by the enterprises, where their internships had been carried out. In spite of distinct improvement in student mobility, the negative trends are to be mentioned too. Student mobility to the Czech Republic is still dominant – from the total number of 76 mobilities, 31 were carried out in Czech partner institutions, it means 41%. Although Czech Universities can be considered strategic partners of the TUZVO, this phenomenon shows evidence of insufficient diversification of student mobility at the faculties of the TUZVO.
