The framework of the transfer for the Erasmus programme for the academic year 2014-2015 (i.e. 24 months’ contract) concerned the transfer of students abroad in order to study and/or intern. Moreover, it concerned the movement of personnel in foreign countries in order to teach or to receive further education.
The programme was entirely implemented, with minor modifications to the initial plan, which absolutely consented to the terms of the Erasmus plan. The objectives of the Institution were: the compliance to the terms of the programme, the equivalent and fair treatment of all the candidates, the attraction and constant orientation of new individuals and, of course, the support of the candidates in the whole lifetime of the activity. Meanwhile, the main target the Institution comprised, for the year 2014-2015, is the fulfillment of the increased demand for students to relocate abroad so as to intern and probably recruit directly after their internship. The reason I am saying this is because plenty of the individuals that relocated in a foreign country for their internship during the given period remained there after they had completed it in order to continue working in the same position or in a different working sector.
Specifically, eighty students were transferred in total. Fifty-nine of them were transferred for educational purposes and twenty-one for their internship. Five of the fifty-nine students remained for two more semesters and one from the twenty-one remained for extra twelve months as well. All of the individuals apart from a female student received a grant from the Erasmus programme for the period they stayed abroad. The female student was transferred as a zero grant (i.e. she was transferred in her home town).
During the staff’s mobility twenty-eight people were totally transferred (faculty and administrative staff). Specifically, five people were transferred as professors and twenty-three in order to attend some educational courses. All of the twenty-eight people received a grant from the Erasmus programme for all the working days they spend abroad, as well as, the days before and after the transfer if it was essential.
The cost of the transfer enclosed both the individuals’ expenses and the expenses for the enhancement and promotion of the programme in our cooperating Institutions and other sectors in foreign countries. In particular, the expenses involved the executives’ salaries who were involved in the programme and the purchase of up-to-date equipment as well as office supplies. Furthermore, it covered the executives’ transport expenses in order to attend seminars and conferences concerned the Erasmus programme. In addition, it covered the subscription fee of the Institution in various supportive networks of the Erasmus. Last but not least, it covered the promotion expenses such as the creation of a new website in English language, folder Erasmus etc.
Through the compilation of evidence from the individuals (reports, feedbacks etc) it emerged that the students gained a great benefit for their academic and professional life. This is a fact that gives the Institution new potentials for further evolution. The increase in professional skills, the evolution of academic knowledge and the educational maturity are some of the qualifications our students have nowadays. And they consist a powerful weapon to fight the unemployment and the great economic crisis in our country. Moreover, the personnel acquired further experience during their transfer for the Erasmus. They were introduced I the policy and strategies of the collaborating Institutions and utilized them in ours. This could give us a boost to our modernization and internationalization in the academic world.
The efficacy of the Erasmus programme was assisted by all the Erasmus Office staff who was working on it via a number of activities (i.e. conferences, constant updating about the programme through the Erasmus website and its Facebook page, brochures etc). This way they managed to reinforce the action of the programme and support the people who were transferred in any way. They also managed to strengthen our collaboration bonds with the foreign Institutions. The main target of the Erasmus Office for the future is the automation of all the procedures so as to the students that are transferred from or to our country as well as the staff of the programme will have an up to date and high quality service.
