Higher education student and staff mobility project
Date du début: 1 juin 2014, Date de fin: 1 juin 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

During the academic year of 2014/2015 Ateneum-University in Gdansk ran an educational mobility project. It focused on students’ mobility for studies at partner universities, student traineeships at partner universities and institutions, staff teaching mobility and staff training. All kinds of mobility planned within the project were performed. Four student mobilities for studies, 20 student traineeship mobilities, 24 academic staff teaching mobilities, and 4 administration staff training mobilities were planned. On recruitment a significantly higher interest in student mobility for studies was noticed, so necessary shifts were made and as result 14 student mobilities for studies were organised, including one person from a disadvantaged background (Neophilology students – English Philology, Spanish Philology and Italian Philology), 13 student traineeship mobilities (Neophilology students – English Philology, Spanish Philology and Italian Philology), 11 academic staff teaching mobilities (teachers from Education Studies, Neophilology, European Studies, Political Sciences and Journalism, and School of Foreign Languages) as well as 6 administration training mobilities (employees from the Rector’s office, Dean’s office, International Cooperation Office, Department for Teaching and Administration). All traineeship mobility students took a language test and were offered an OLS course - 6 of them did the online course during their mobility period. Mobility countries: Spain, Italy, Turkey, Great Britain. Thanks to mobility, both traineeship mobility students and mobility for studies ones improved their team-working skills, creative ideas possibilities and their implementation as well as finding ways out in difficult situations – problem solving. Over 90% Erasmus+ students learned how to plan and do their own learning better. Through their stay abroad the students learned better the value of different cultures (92% SMS, 100% SMP). Traineeship and study mobility made the students more independent, their logical thinking skills improved, they can organise plans and tasks better, and their cultural sensitivity increased. After the mobility over 90% students declared an improvement in their skills to cope with new situations, to cooperate with people from different backgrounds and/or culture, and to think critically and analyse information. They also became more confident and convinced of their own abilities, more open and curious of new challenges, more tolerant towards others’ values and behaviour, as well as they became more familiar with their own strengths and weaknesses. With reference to the staff mobility, over 90% improved their social and cultural competence, and language skills. Job satisfaction also increased significantly. Through the mobility over 70% academic staff improved their organisational, management and leadership skills, learned about or developed their knowledge on new practices and teaching methods as well as gained special and/or practical skills necessary for their job. Both academic and administration staff mobility boosted the employment and career progression, learning good practices from abroad as well as reinforced the cooperation with the receiving institutions. While on mobility, Ateneum staff made or extended their professional contacts networks, which will surely impact on their work in future. The competence boost as well as the experience acquired on mobility will surely have a positive influence on the socio-economic environment.
