Higher education student and staff mobility project
Date du début: 1 juin 2014, Date de fin: 31 mai 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The « lycée Jean ZAY » has got the Erasmus commitment chart since 2008. Our High school is open to international fields and there are 2 classes of a two-year higher education diploma: BTS AM and BTS CI. Doing that type of studies involves a training period abroad. Then the Erasmus program offers a financial support to students belonging to low income families (the majority of our students). Nowadays, the possibility to realize an internship abroad is offered to the 1st year students of each BTS, either CI or AM. As far as the BTS CI they have to stay at least 4 weeks in a foreign country but they can stay longer; most of the time 8 weeks, sometimes up to 12 weeks. As to the BTS AM, students need to spend 4 weeks either abroad or in an organization working in an international environment. Our aims are: • to develop their abilities in a foreign language • to make their entering the labor market easier • to make them aware of the cultural differences in a professional approach Moreover, for most of them, it is their first professional experience. In 2014/2015, we had 18 beneficiaries: group 1 (6), groups 2/3 (12) and 15 non beneficiaries. During their work placement, the activities are mostly as follows: 1. BTS CI: prospection 2. BTS AM: secretarial tasks such as mails and e-mails, diary management, working in the front desk The opportunity to do a work placement in a foreign country is both professional and human. For the students it is a chance to know other work methods and to develop a better understanding of other cultures. As citizens of Europe, that is the way to discover other economic and social systems and other human behaviors. They improve their knowledge about other cultures and thus this experience leads them to a better understanding and awareness of the European citizenship. As to the command of language, they improve their oral skills, the understanding of the language, and they learn about new ways of working, methods and new softwares. Then, the work placement is linked with examinations; the oral examinations for both BTS are based on their work, on their knowledge of situations experienced during that period. Another point is that in most cases, this first experience in the working life abroad will encourage and enable the students to travel and to look for other stays either for work, studies or holidays.
